It is a growing pile of ****, impressive in size, but in the end, it is still ****.

I am plenty old enough to remember Harold Miner. Media driven bullcrap, non-substantive hype is not the same as a groundswell of scout/gm consensus regarding the quality level of a prospect.

Oden as a draft prospect was widely regarded by those who would/should know as a once every 5 to 10 year pivot, the uncontested #1 pick regardless of who might declare. Howard/Duncan/Shaq level prospect.

He could fail. He could be a bust. But, if he does it will be because he is injured in some way. If healthy, there is almost no chance whatsoever he wouldn't be an impactful player. That you think otherwise is strange to me. Like you are trying to tell me grass is pink.

Well the media also reported that those same GM's you speak of were also concerned with the durability of Oden's body and that he could have already been "damaged goods". Of course these reports didnt come out until after the draft. It works both ways.

Steve Blake is one of the worst starting PG's in the NBA. There is no way he is average, there are 30 teams in the NBA you think steve blake is a better starter than 15 of them?

I'd say he is worse than every single starting PG in the playoffs with Delonte West being the only close call.
Steve Blake is a above average shooter and has a great Asst to TO ratio. He does exactly what he has to do. He is a good PG. I don't think he is our answer at PG, but he will be awesome as a backup. But yea, i'd call him an average PG.

And there were questions about Howard's skill set and his ability to improve, and questions about Duncan and his passiveness, and questions about Shaq and his inability to shoot, and on and on.

There are always "questions". These are relative, and do nothing to change the ranking of prospects, not within a single draft year, but among an entire generation.

NBA Comparison: David Robinson/Bill Russell
Strengths: One of those dominant centers that surfaces in the high school ranks every 10 or so years … Has the size and NBA ready body that few his age possess …1-07

Not sure why you keep trying to back out of your original "argument". Weak stuff indeed.

Re: Najera?

I don't have any mancrush on Najera, but he's not just a Ruben Patterson clone. he proved he had decent three point range this year, which Ruben never did.

anyway, I'd be ok with acquiring him if it was as an upgrade over Josh McRoberts. but I certainly would make it clear to him he was no better than 9th man off the bench.
