LeBron James got robbed. Cleveland doesn't win 15 games without him.
Call this Kobe's lifetime achievement award.

^okay, I agree that the Cavs would be nothing without him but now think of this...
Take Kobe off the Lakers this year...in the west
No Bynum for half the year and it was really only his last month where he was a monster
Gasol only played 27 reg season games
Ariza who was a very quality defender goes out halfway through the season.
Now imagine all that still happening but no Kobe Bryant at all, which actually could have happened if he chose to get surgery on his finger. I totally agree with your assessment of the Cavs without Lebron but this year with all the injuries happening around Kobe and to himself I think a very strong case can be made that the Lakers would have been even worse off.Not only does Kobe overcome all this and keep the Lakers afloat but goes out and wins the west all together! Amazing!
IMO if the Lakers stay relatively healthy for the next couple of seasons, this could be the last year Kobe had a chance to win the MVP because he will have such a quality team around him.
You can win MVP with a quality team around you. Shaq did it in 2000. MJ did it several times. Dirk did it last year. Nash did it a couple times. You don't have to have crappy teammates to win the award.
