Re: We need a defensive guard
Conley is not a good PG and I think it will be at least another year before he is good, if ever. I think that Conley would be a big mistake. Personally, I think he will never be a better than average PG in the league.

Re: We need a defensive guard
After watching Conley i was just in awe about how over-rated he really was (by myself also). I don't think he is that good at all, in any category except age. He is pretty small also.
IMO, right now, he isn't better than Blake.

I was against us trading to get him last draft like so many posters wanted cause I thought he was overrated then, now, that belief is solidified.

What exactly makes you think this? There has only been one 20-21 year old rookie point guard in the last few years that has looked good off the bat, and that's Chris Paul, who was and is an absolute freak.
Conley's season compares pretty well to Deron Williams' rookie season. Neither of their seasons were particularly impressive, but no one was thinking that Deron wouldn't amount to much after his rocky first season. Conley isn't guaranteed to improve, sure. Williams benefits from playing under one of the best in the game. There are some examples of point guards floundering because of bad coaching. Raymond Felton comes to mind. Sam Vincent had him playing shooting guard with Jeff McInnis (worst player in the league) running the point, which is ridiculous.
At any rate, making this kind of statement about a twenty year old point guard who didn't even have that bad of a season is way premature.

Re: We need a defensive guard
Well I did not say he would fail, I just said that I did not think he would be better than average. And what I meant to say was a better than average starter. I do think he will be a decent starter, but he really did not show me much this year. I have to admit, I only saw him play a few times, but in the games I saw he did not show any flashes of brilliance, which is what i look for in youngsters. Like with Deron, I remember in his rookie year in several instances seeing flashes. I am not a Conley expert, but he does not appear speedy quick like someone with his athleticism should be. His shot is not good, and his passes are exaggerated. He is young and has tons of room to improve, but I just don't expect him to be anything special ever.
Here is a thread about Conley before prior to the draft http://www.basketballforum.com/portl...conley-jr.html I just thought this was interesting.

I don't think those are our only options. I think it is more important to find the right trades than to trade just to make a trade. If the right trade does not come up this offseason, then yes, I would be fine with Blake and JJ for the moment and perhaps before the trade deadline a better option would arise. If not, then there is the following offseason. With Oden, Aldridge and Roy, three very young stars, we are looking at a championship run in a couple seasons, that's the timeline we have to find the right point. But trading prematurely would close the doors of future trades that may be better fits.

Re: We need a defensive guard
Here is where you have made your mistake. You assume the Blazers need a defensive point guard in order to slow certain players down. You should never design your team just to take down a particular team with one player. You might not even face that team or teams in the playoffs. The team concept should be pursued with the thought in mind of making your opponents adjust to what you are doing, and making them uncomfortable and or off their game, not adjusting to what they are doing, because then you are playing to the strength of the other team. The facts are:
You can not guard any of the guards you are talking about without a team defense concept.
You will notice that LA contained Deron Williams last night, but it was done with team D, not individual D.

Re: We need a defensive guard
The obvious path is to draft Russel Westbrook. If we have to, trade up a few spots to get him. We have plenty of second rounder picks to work with. Russel Westbrook excels at the defensive end.

Re: We need a defensive guard
The Grizzlies were so below the radar this season that no one would have noticed anyway. His shooting is suspect, yes, but he took a lot of his shots inside in quick drives to the basket. If he learns to finish his drives (which is not a given, of course), he could turn out to be a pretty dangerous player. He did finish the season strong in April, but it wasn't quite as prominent as the way Deron Williams ended his season in his rookie year. If he puts work in this offseason, I can see him being at the very least average as soon as next year.
