As of today, the Raptors would like me to continue, however until the 1st of July we will not know anything about the possible renewal or other offers from teams interested in me for next season. What is clear is the fact that if I have to choose between a sports offer versus an economic offer, I will opt for the first. I want to be a starter and to be in a team that aspires for everything. Of course I will not be on a team in which I cannot be an important contributor nor if there is not a solid structure or if there are not options to be in the “Playoffs”.

Re: Jose Manuel Calderon's Blog
very interesting. Sounds like he isn't too happy with the Raps. The Raps are going to NEED to get rid of either Ford or Calderon, and even that might not be enough.

Re: Jose Manuel Calderon's Blog
Thanks for the info . . . maybe just a teaser, but it opens up a door of hopefulness.
Below is some other information relating to Calderon and Howard (both with threaeds on this board):
Dallas Mavericks SF Josh Howard’s ill-timed admission that he smokes weed in the offseason should not affect his trade value. “He’s not a two- or three-time offender,” says a league G.M. “He hasn’t even tested positive.” Or, as another G.M. says: “It’s not like he’s an ax murderer.” That G.M. adds that Howard might even deserve props for being honest. Mavs owner Mark Cuban said in an e-mail that he’s not looking to deal Howard. We’ll see. Cuban has few other options if he wants to rebuild the supporting cast around PF Dirk Nowitzki. …
Toronto Raptors G.M. Bryan Colangelo plans to keep restricted free agent-to-be Jose Calderon, which means he will have two choices for handling his point guard duo of Calderon and T.J. Ford: 1) Keep both and run the risk Ford will be unhappy if he loses the starting job or 2) Trade Ford. Moving him would be the best move, but getting equal value won’t be easy. He’s scheduled to make $16 million-plus over the next two years. …

Re: Jose Manuel Calderon's Blog
Thanks for sharing - interesting piece.
I'm not sure we can guarantee him a starting role, although I'd like to think we could. Is Rudy going to come off the bench? Because if you pencil in Roy and Rudy as starters, I don't think Calderon starts.
Perhaps Rudy is our 6th man, similar to the role Ginobli plays in San Antonio.
I still hold firm to my prediction that Calderon will be our starting point guard in game 1 of the 2008-09 season.

Oh, I dunno. They just got bounced and bounced hard. He's upset. Once he's had a month or two to cool off though....
It's not that I don't hope you're right but I'd bet, given that that team did just make the playoffs and how loved he is by the fans there, that if they manage to move Ford for some reasonable upgrade at another position, he'd be fine with it. It's true, though, that in Portland he'd likely win more games total, get to play with the Big Three and Fernandez, and it'd make sense financially, too, so maybe.

I like the idea of Rudy being our 6th man but I wonder if Roy couldnt play the 3 and be a "point-forward". He might struggle defensively with the stronger SF's in the league but having LMA and Oden behind him would help a lot in the post.

Re: Jose Manuel Calderon's Blog
...and if you read the entire entry, the worst part is that he is routing for the Lakers [err, Pau I should say but the Lakers nevertheless]!!! He will learn quickly to hate them with a passion as soon as he becomes part of the Rip City family!!!

Re: Jose Manuel Calderon's Blog
Interesting, but I don't see anything new. Plus I have seen players say that type of stuff before and then taking a fat contract in some craphole to play.

Granted he's a marshmello but Roy shut down Carmello at the end of that Denver game this year.

No, Thomas and his guys weren't the only ones in the wrong Saturday. The Nuggets have their own issues. But when it was over, at least they weren't crying, at least they weren't punking.
It's all gone in New York now – the pride, the respect, the dignity. This isn't just a bad team; this is a bad act. A once proud franchise and fan base brought to its knees as its pathetic coach makes excuses and whines for mercy.

Eh? Jose could be the starting PG, Roy the starting SG, Rudy the starting SF.
Roy can play PG/SG/SF, Rudy can play SG/SF...no conflict there at all.

Ya, Roy really needs to put on some muscle. His biggest problem last season was being able to get to the rim and finish.
I hope everyone goes to his site, emails him, and tells him to come to Portland! I did.

I'm pretty sure the implication was that Carmello was the marshmallow, not Roy, though I don't agree either way.
Regardless, I don't agree with your assertion, Yega, that Fernandez can play SF. I think he's pretty exclusively a SG but I think he swings closer to PG than SF. He's smaller and much lighter than Roy.
