2009 Roy
Assuming that Oden, Rose and Beasley are the leading candidates for next year's ROY, who do you think has the best shot to win it and why?

Re: 2009 Roy
Assuming all are healthy, right now it's got to be Oden. He's more prepared and will be stepping into a big role with a much better team than either of the others are likely to. If something odd happens like the Clippers get Rose and come back with a health Brand and company, then that might change things.

Re: 2009 Roy
Dang, that is tough. Its going to depend how healthy Greg is and his foul trouble.
Also, i think Rudy Fernandez and OJ Mayo will be in the top 5... hmm..
I'll probably go other i guess.
I also haven't seen enough of people like Gillinari to put them on my list of top candidates.

Re: 2009 Roy
Good question, but I think it's really hard to predict, especially before we see where each player goes. The team and the coach surrounding the player has a lot to do with their ability to race for ROY. But, I don't see Rose as competing for ROY, I think he will be the best player from this years draft, but he is still fairly raw and PG's usually take longer to adjust. Beasley I think is overrated (still a very good player) but he should be a stat machine if he gets on the right team. I think he could be the type of player that does little to help his team win, but puts up a lot of numbers. So he could certainly be the ROY. But Oden, if he returns at full strength, should get a lot of burn and seems ready to go right off the bat. THis year's ROY is wide open with these three and about 5 other players including Mayo, Gordon, Love and Rudy all having a shot.

Re: 2009 Roy
Oden!!! He is going to surprise us all. Watch.
Although I am still not sure if he is eligible for ROY. I have heard yes and no from reliable sources on both sides. No one has been able to show any proof that he is eligible for ROY. Just hear say.

Re: 2009 Roy
Just like how we thought at the beginning of this season, Oden probably won't have big numbers.. probably something like 12-13 ppg, 8-10 rbg and 2-3 bpg, but will be on a winning team, get this team to the playoffs and will win ROY while Beasley and Rose will probably put up 18-20 ppg on sorry teams.

Re: 2009 Roy
I give the nod to Oden because he should be on the team with the most wins. I could see Rose really tearing it up though.

ROY is the one accolade that does not seem to depend on team success.

Re: 2009 Roy
A lot of people argued that Horford should have been ROY this year because he put up solid numbers on a playoff team, as compared to Durrant. If Oden wins it, it will be because of his ESPN dunks and blocks, not because of the team success or his stats. I also agree that Rudy and Mayo would be on my short list. I think Mayo has a much better chance than Rose, if he gets on the right team. My guesses:
1) Rudy (most experienced rookie, ala Brandon, only language will hold him back)
2) Oden (if fouls and injuries don't keep him down, maybe #1)
3) Mayo (has the most NBA ready game, and should end up on a bad team)
4) Beasley (if he ends up in Miami or Seattle, will have to compete with Dwade & Durrant)
5) Rose (will be very good, but not as a PG in his first year)

Re: 2009 Roy
Beasley will win this one easily. I don't see any legit competition, he's better than Durrant and is going to dominate the NBA right away just like Iverson did. I think Fernandez has a better chance than Oden actually.

Re: 2009 Roy
My guess is Beasley.
With Roy, LMA, Rudy, Outlaw and Webster... I think the Blazers have enough other decent-to-good options that Oden will not be expected to put up huge numbers. Which means he probably won't win ROY.
Look at Durant this year. There were no other legit options to take away some of his numbers. I think that is probably the case for most ROY winners.
When ROY won, the only other option on the team was Zach.

Re: 2009 Roy
My guess is Michael Beasley. If Rudy Fernandez starts for the Blazers, he has a great chance of winning also. Greg Oden is my third choice.
1. Rudy Fernandez(if he starts)
2. Michael Beasley
3. Greg Oden
4. Derrick Rose

Re: 2009 Roy
I say Oden because he is coming into a situation with great players around him to where on offense I see him being big down low and a big stopper in the middle on D. I think his stats will be inflated due to his teammates. Plus the team should be a winner next year so that will help. He is going into the best situation of the above mentioned rookies.
