Re: OT: Anyone else an ex-Laker fan?
I was born with my middle finger facing south.
Actually, that's not true. I grew up in Arizona but was not a basketball fan till I moved to Oregon when I was about 10. And I became less a fan of the Blazers at the time, as I did a fan of certain Blazer players like Drexler, Porter and Duck. But I also rooted for the Celtics and the Knicks because that's where most of my family came from. But as time went on, I became a diehard Blazer fan. But never, not for a second, did I ever like the lakers. They were always easy to hate.

Re: OT: Anyone else an ex-Laker fan?
Thanks sasaint! Go geezers!
I left L.A. in '88 and moved to Sacramento. I surprised myself when I became a Kings fan, and loved that team with Webber, Vlade and Peja. That is when I first came to hate my old team, the Lakers - Shaq calling them the "Queens"... that BS western conference finals where the calls all went the Lakers' way.
It only exacerbated when I moved here in 2000. Though that Blazers team with Sheed and Bonzi was hard to like, I love these guys and am a season ticket holder.
DaRizzle, you sound like a guy who has never lived anywhere but L.A!

Re: OT: Anyone else an ex-Laker fan?
I didn't start watching basketball until 1989 when I was 12 and the Blazers started playing well. Before that I was a baseball fan and my dad's team, the Twins, had won a World Series, so I started getting into them. Since he was from Minnesota, we pretty much cheered for teams from there, and I wanted to bond with my dad. Then baseball had the strike that cancelled the World Series in 1994 and I've rarely looked back since.
I remember my dad and my neighbor talking about the Blazers when they made the playoffs as a 39-43 team in '89. They were talking about how they really didn't deserve to be there and how they'd probably get swept (which I believe they did). After that summer I got into middle school, which is when things that are popular start to matter a whole lot more, and that's when I saw all of the Blazer parkas. I remember one of my teachers at the end of that school year saying a comical prayer in the classroom in front of everyone every couple of days for the Blazers to beat the Pistons. Most of us were Blazer fans, but then there were a lot of kids who were Bulls fans. I remember it bothering me that people in my own hometown were cheering for another team.
I don't remember there being too many Lakers fans around, though.

Re: OT: Anyone else an ex-Laker fan?
I've never really hated the Laker teams as much as I've hated the fans. It's a moan-a-thon or a *****-a-thon everytime the Lakers lose. It's like the fans have some sort of unjustified arrogance in them, that they are obligated to win every game. It just gets to the point that I want to strangle them.

While I was never a Laker fan, I grudgingly admit to cheering for them in the '72 Western Conference Finals against the Bucks. That was entirely due to the fact that I grew up as a huge Wilt fan and loved seeing him, even well past his prime at 35, block Kareem's sky hook, win that series and go on to be named the Finals MVP.
And while I didn't LIKE the showtime Lakers teams of the 1980s, I did respect their talent.
I've hated them with a passion ever since. The non-stop whining and sense of entitlement from their coach, their superstar and their fans, is just intolerable.

Re: OT: Anyone else an ex-Laker fan?
I will admit to having been a Laker fan long ago, before there was such a thing as "Blazers". However, once the Blazers came into existence, I have been a die-hard Blazer fan ever since.

...then you never were a real fan. Have fun not cheering for your team until November.

Re: OT: Anyone else an ex-Laker fan?
A lot of the Laker fans sense of entitlement comes from a severe sense of envy when it comes to the Celtics and the sense of entitlement of their fans.
They (a lot of Laker fans) want to top the # of titles the Celtics have. Although you get into the discussion about if LA Laker fans can brag about the titles won in Minneapolis, the Lakers *franchise* has 14 titles (9 in while in LA).
The fact that the Boston Celtics have 16, burns their bacon. They desperately want to top that # and despite their best efforts, Laker fans have a huge chip on their shoulders when it comes to Boston. Mostly due to the *** whippings the Celtics regularly used to hand out to the Lakers in the 60's and 70's.
Don't underestimate the joy that long time Laker fans had in finally beating the Celtics monkey off their backs in 85, and again in 87. But they have a huge chip on their shoulders about the whole # of titles Boston has.
They took great pleasure in the pain and suffering that Boston has done since 87, no doubt. They would probably rather beat the Celtics in the finals this year, more than any one other team. Especially in a year where beating them would put the Lakers (franchise) title total to 17.
Their sense of entitlement is probably the main reason so many fans hate the franchise. I don't necessarily hate the players myself, but I hate the fact that some of their fans take them being Laker fans as proof they're better than those who aren't.
See above post for clarification of what I meant.

It cracked me up. It would save a lot of time if everyone did that on here...
