draftexpress article on workouts; Bryce Taylor
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/...ports-LA-2884/
Now while I am a duck fan I am no homer. I know that he is not bound to be a superstar, but part of the reason role players who appear not so great stick around so long in the NBA (Bowen, Eric Snow, etc etc) is because they know their role. It sounds like he does. I love his jumper, his passive play sometimes drove me nuts at UO but on the blazers it would be what they needed, and I think he'd be fine on the bench for a year before he got his shot. I'd love to use an early second round pick on the local pick with the excellent jumper. He would be some insurance if James Jones left, and could be groomed for a 15 mpg stretch the defense type of role in the future. He also works well in transition and could help in an up-tempo second unit that Sergio would thrive in (along with Rudy).
I love the leadership that Jones provides, but I don't think he'll stay with Outlaw and Martell here. I think I'd rather have Martell, Frye, and Jones than Martell and Outlaw, or Outlaw and Frye. I'm also worried Rudy won't come over if we don't show some sign of loyalty to him for playing time. I think nearly anyone could agree Jack's time is over, so the question is what do we get for Jack and Outlaw? A vet PG? Then what do we do with blake? Too many assets isn't a bad thing I suppose, just a complicated thing.
I just think the players we pick in this draft (if we pick any) should be willing to take a while to develop or be perspective role players. My favorites are Batum (13) and Taylor (35). Time would open up for one of them after Jones expired this year, and they got used to the team, and the NBA.
So hypothetically we parlay Blake, Jack, Outlaw, and picks 13 and 35 into a vet PG, Batum, and Taylor, while adding Rudy and Oden, and convincing Jones to exercise his player option...
vetPG/Sergio/Koponen
Roy/Fernandez/Taylor
Webster/Jones/Batum
Aldridge/Frye/Mcroberts
Oden/Pryzbilla
many may not think Sergio is ready, but Roy can always grab some minutes at point, leaving a few more for Fernandez, Webster, and Jones.

Re: draftexpress article on workouts; Bryce Taylor
Why draft Taylor a 6' 4" SG slated to go #54 by NBA Draft Net when Rudy is going to back up Roy at SG and there are other guards like: Westbrook, Chalmers, Rush, Ellington, Weaver, Hudson, Lee and Roby who are slated to be taken earlier. Also, if any of the aforementioned guards are better than Koponen, why sign him this year and not them? Moreover, Blake is a vet PG. I think a trio of PGs such as Blake, Sergio and one of Gordon, Westbrook or Hudson would do nicely when combined with Roy and Rudy at SG.
As for drafting Batum, why encourage and try and convince Jones to exercise his player option and also trade Outlaw when Outlaw will clearly be a better player than Batum next year? The Blazers have two very nice SFs in Webster and Outlaw. They just need some more experience and some playing time with Oden. I also think they will do good next year.
Unless the Blazers work a deal to move up to take one of the elite PGs or Gallinari, and if they remain at #13 I would opt to take a "BIG" to replace Raef when his contract expires and to back up Joel. Someone like McGee or Robin Lopez.
A team of :
Blake/Sergio/Westbrook (or Hudson)
Roy/Rudy
Webster/Outlaw
LMA/Frye/McRoberts
Oden/Joel/Raef/McGee
would be better than one with Koponen, Taylor, and Batum on it.

now this is a sexy roster! Where is Jack in this though? I wouldn't mind seeing Jack back in a role of no more than 15 minutes a game. He would add a nice toughness and getting to the rim. He can backup PG moreso than SG.
Blake | Jack | Westbrook(Hudson)
Roy | Rudy
Webster | Outlaw
Aldridge | Frye
Oden | Pryzbilla
Then you have Raef, Sergio and McRoberts on the side. Raef's contract expires after next year giving us a lot of cap room.
This would probably be my realistic dream scenerio.

he's under contract and he'll play only when his coach puts him in. That may or may not be in Portland next season, but dude can't trade himself either.
btw...I'm a Duck fan/alum and don't have much interest in Taylor becoming a Blazer as his skill set is too limited. I also think size wise he'll come in between guard positions at about 6'3 barefoot.

Being his facebook friend, I can tell you he doesn't like Kobe, which is always a plus when considering future Blazers!
On a side note, I should have known Erick Barkley was going to be terrible when he said he rooted for LA in 2000 over Portland during his press conference interview about his arrival in Portland.

No. There is absolutely no reason to have Jack taking minutes away from other players. Only possible way is if we don't end up getting another PG in the off-season and decide Roy shouldn't play those minutes at PG.

Last I heard he was playing in the CBA after being waived from a few Euro league teams. What a waste of a draft pick that was

Re: draftexpress article on workouts; Bryce Taylor
You have more potential in Malik than Bryce. Actually, i dont know if i will take Malik either considering the most successful NBA player recently out of the U of O so far has been Freddie Jones or Luke Ridnour; and they havent had very much success, so what makes you think Bryce will become ANYTHING in the league? History suggests that U of O has a great college system, but not a great NBA-prep system.
