I can't believe how much Pargo hogged the ball down the stretch. Pargo??? They have CP3 for cryin' out loud.
Bad coaching on Byron's part.

I missed the game - but am I reading this right? Spurs had only 30 FGs, but 12 of them were treys?

Inexperience showed. When it got down to it, Chris Paul tried to do everything, Pargo tried to play hero, Peja shot a 30-footer.
They went completely away from David West and Tyson Chandler, who were as useful as Joel Przybilla as they were just setting screens the whole fourth quarter.
The Spurs just played through Duncan, and Manu and Parker and Ime got open threes.
The Blazers can learn from this.. We need to play through LaMarcus and Greg, or at least make them offensive threats in the final minutes of playoff games.

i think paul was pretty tired at the end, which really hurt them.
also other than paul they only had 4 assists as a team.

Why the heck was Peja just jacking it up the moment he touched it (once with 23 on the shot clock)!? Why go away from West, and why the hell not have it in CP3's hands Pargo?!

Re: OT: Are the Hornets even playing to win this game?
it looked to me like Pargo and Peja each thought, "This is the moment when I become a superstar and get offered a massive contract down the road." unfortunately, that only works if you have the talent to back it up.
that kind of crap happens on a young team without strongly defined roles. you'd never see Bruce Bowen or Fabricio Humberto try to pull that nonsense off.
the interesting thing about the Hornets is that as young and as good as they are, can they really get much better? Peja is only getting older. West, although very good, seems to already be maximizing what a physically limited power forward can do. Chandler isn't going to develop a great offensive game any time soon. Paul already is the best point guard in the league. they're going to get a lousy draft pick, and they don't have much of a bench.
how does that team improve? I'm struggling to see how they take the next step up.
I've often compared them to the Blazers, but that's where the comparison falls apart. the Blazers have half a dozen players who could still see drastic growth. and Oden and Rudy haven't even played. but the Hornets are a little like the 1990's Utah Jazz. a great point guard/power forward tandem, and a bunch of spare parts that aren't quite good enough to get it done.

Re: OT: Are the Hornets even playing to win this game?
I didn't understand the logic behind coming out to start the second quarter and running your first two offensive sets to get post-up opportunities for Melvin Ely on Tim Duncan. Melvin freakin Ely? This was a perfect example of a team who hasn't found themselves yet tightening up in a critical game 7. Coaches and players.
Unbelievable.
Ah well - hopefully the Spurs don't look so old against the Lakers, or else they are going to get run.

I too was stunned to see Pargo trying to take on the Spurs defense BY HIMSELF.
To his credit, he made some plays and made some shots. No doubt he confused the Spurs. Alas, it is bad playoff basketball. It is ok for role-players to take shots, but they must run through your all-stars.
