I know the Tim Donaghy thing has been discussed at length but I found it interesting that the league is poo-poohing some of his comments.

Disgraced basketball referee Tim Donaghy told investigators in the NBA betting probe that relationships among officials, coaches and players “affected the outcome of games,” his attorney said. The league said the charges were unfounded.
|
We've speculated many times about certain ref's having it in for specific players (probably most discussed in the Sheed T era), if you can trust Donaghy, there may be more substance to that than anyone is willing to acknowledge.

Donaghy told investigators about the gambling activities of other NBA officials and about a referee that passed “confidential” information to an unidentified coach.

I'm not sure what "confidential" info a ref would have that would benefit a coach but I find this interesting.
For all you conspiracy/coverup types, I found this interesting:

The attorney, John F. Lauro, wrote that the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District agreed to plea agreements with other defendants in the case, even though his client told investigators about NBA matters outside of the government’s initial investigation. Lauro said the disparity in treatment could not be fully explained because prosecutors have “surrounded this case with a cone of silence...the attorney suggested that the NBA might have “pressured” the attorney’s office “into shutting down this prosecution to avoid the disclosure of information unrelated to Tim’s conduct.””

Plea agreements made with other defendants and a "cone of silence" put on the topic (to "save" the integrity of the game?). "If it is not specifically to do with Donaghy, we don't want it publicized!"
