But saying that they won't do a MF procedure on Bynum just because they haven't done it yet is a little bit erroneous of an assumption (being a former paramedic and having endured two knee surgeries I have a little bit of first hand knowledge) X-rays and other diagnostic procedures (MRI, CT, Nuclear Med. Bone scans, etc.) aren't as sure fire as you might suspect they would be at detecting defects like cartilage damage; in fact arthoscopic surgery is usually the only sure fire way to know what kind of cartilage damage is affecting a joint, since this kind of tissue isn't highly vascularized, and isn't particularly dense.

Once they open Bynum up they'll have a real picture of what is going on with the knee's internal structures, and if they discover cartilage damage that needs Micro-fracture they'd be foolish not to perform the procedure there and then.
