Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
I'm of the "sure why not" group. The kid is still VERY young, and perhaps w/ a 3 year vet. min. deal he'll need the first 2 years to rehab and get back up to speed, but if we can even get him back to 80-85% of what he was going to be then it'd be totally worth it. Low risk/high reward type move and one where we can always move on from quickly if we don't see what we want to see in his progresssion.

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
If you read about why the Clips didn't offer him a contract, you can see that it takes him 90 minutes of therapy before he can even run a minimum contact drill. The guy had a lot of talent, but his body just isn't going to keep up. I think Miles would have a better chance of playing than Livingston.

something like 3 years 6 million with the second and third team options. that way if he doesnt pan out we can drop him next offseason.

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
I think that the main problem is how skinny he is. Since he is lacking major muscle structure recovering from such a major injury is even harder, If he does come back it will be after atleast 1 more season of recovering so no reason to rush. If anyone does sign him i bet he would still be easy to aquire via trade later.

It is a rumor, but I checked and the rumor is worse than I stated:

According to the source, Livingston can't work out back-to-back days and needs about 90 minutes of therapy before doing noncontact basketball drills. There is speculation he might not be able to play at the NBA level again.

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
I think you have your doctors check him out of course, and if the consensus is he can come back from this injury and be close to whole again, then you absolutely pursue him and sign him to whole\part of the MLE..a couple years, team options...
He is high risk\high reward player and for the 15th guy on the bench, at least for part\whole of this year, that is worth it...

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
I feel soo bad for this kid.
Hopefully he takes all of next year to slowly rehab, and then comes back strong the next one.
I wish him all the best.
That 90 minute thing isn't cool.

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
The need for intensive therapy just to be able to go every other day is big, bright, shiny red flag. I'd rather have Sergio manning the point than waste a roster spot on someone who is unlikely to ever be able play meaningful minutes ever again ... It's been a year and a half, if he's still this far behind in his rehab, then he should probably feel lucky that he's able to walk.

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
it should be obvious that if the clippers (the team with the best insight and knowledge of the situation) thought he would be able to play, at the very least they'd extend the qualifying offer. remember, the clippers are one of the very few teams in greater need of a pointguard than portland.

Re: Should Portland Offer Livingston a Contract?
I don't care about the money, just the roster spots. If we have a spot for him, great, but do we offer the 15th roster spot to him or Koponen if it comes to that? I'd go with Koponen.
