Early 90's Team compared to current players.
The basic idea of this thread is to see how accurately we can compare our guys, back in the 90's to CURRENT players only of today just to get a grip of how good they were. I'll take a shot at it...
PG-Terry Porter-Chauncey Billups
TP wasn't as "thick" build as Billups, but both can knock down the triple at any place and any time. TP wasn't as clutch as Chauncey but obviously had his fair share of moments. Both were nearly automatic at the FT line and had a knack of getting their teammates involved. It seemed like each player could be a pass first of shoot first lead guard depending on the situation.
SG-Clyde Drexler-Tracy McGrady
Very hard to find someone who plays like Clyde did. I thought about Vince and Wade, but Wade is more combo and Vince doesn't have the heart Clyde does. Everyone gets down on T-Mac and no 2nd round, but he has heart. Both were elite scorers in their prime, Mac more so, winning 1 or 2 scoring titles. But both are similar in the fact they were the 2nd best at the position..Drexler to Jordan..McGrady to Bryant. Back in the day, Drexler was every bit as athletic as Mcgrady, maybe more so. Tracy's height does give him more versatility. Neither player was a sharpshooter, but could ride their jumpers if need be and make clutch plays. I give Clyde the advantage in passing and being an overall team-oriented player
SF-Jerome Kersey-Gerald Wallace
Both are players who will give you a little bit of everything and good, but not good enough to be All-Star status. very similar games..unstoppable on the fast break..good mid range game..a lot of hustle. Gerald probably the better defensive player, Kersey the offensive.
PF-Buck Williams-Ben Wallace (Prime)
Buck's defense was very underrated. Without him, I don't see how we constantly beat Utah in the playoffs in the 90's. He was also very vital in defending The Admiral in the 90 playoffs when Duckworth was out. Both players gobbled up rebounds, obviously Ben was more proficient in that area, but comparable none the less. Buck was by far the better offensive player, but it was hard finding a comparison in today's game to Buck. He was a throw back.
C-Kevin Duckworth-Zydrunas Illgauskas
Behind Drexler, this one was the toughest. Guys of Kevin's size and weight just aren't able to play in the NBA anymore. Glen Davis was a thought, but he is very unproven and Duckworthh did make it to two AS games. Z is pretty immobile like Duck, both soft and could hit it from 15 ft and out. Neither was teh defensive presence you'd like for am an of that stature.
I'm tired..someone give a crack at Ainge and Uncle Cliffy. It is really hard only using current players..the game has changed.

I want to say Brent Barry (circa 2000 when he was with Seattle) for Danny Ainge.

Uncle Cliffy = Lamar Odom? They both are known for some disappearing acts in the playoffs but talented 6-10 players who are more SFs.

I'm not so sure about that one. Clifford was a very good defensive player, something that Odom is not.
I'd actually go with a present-day Rasheed Wallace for a Robinson comparison.

Cliff could handle the ball though, which Sheed cannot. Back in the early 90's, Cliff didn't really post up that much if I recall. He could spot up and shoot the 3, or get the ball and penetrate to the hole.
Odom is not that bad of a defensive player either...
As for Buck comparisons, I'd go with a younger PJ Brown or Kurt Thomas. Buck had an ability to hit a 10-foot jumper time to time.

Re: Early 90's Team compared to current players.
I'll go take a crack with others..
Robert Pack = Rajon Rondo
Both lightning quick guards, who aren't really great three-point shooters but can be explosive.
Mark Bryant = Brian Skinner
Nothing too spectacular but a nice veteran backup man to bang around.
Danny Young = Damon Jones
Good shooter, and really nothing else.
Ennis Whatley = Jacque Vaughn
Journeyman point guard.

Re: Early 90's Team compared to current players.
I thought about PJ or Kurt for buck, but I simply think he was a cut above both players.
Tim Thomas is my comparison for Uncle Cliffy..both bigs who can stoke it from distance, but really never lived up to their potential.

As for Robert Pack, I think I'll go with Ronnie Price..both quick guards with HOPS!

Andrew Bynum?
I know where you were going with that, but I'd rather use a Laker for that comparison.

Sam Bowie was never on a Blazers early 90s team.
