That picture was taken during the Nike Hoops Summit, a one time exhibition game between US and International talent. It's the only time he's worn number 8, probably because someone else had number 5. On his home team of Le Mans he is number 5.

Of course Batum likely won't have number 5 on the Blazers, because Rudy wears number 5 and I can see him getting 1st dibs.
