Greetings From Indy

Howdy,

Up here with the Mrs. visiting some of her family. Gonna keep this short because I gotta run.........

Anyhoo, yesterday, was engaged in a rather healthy conversation with my wife's Great Aunt -- 77 years young and sharp as a tack, I might add - regarding the draft day trade we made with them. Oddly enough, she was more concerned about losing Ike Diogu than any other aspect of that trade. She said that we're getting a gem of a player. Apart from some of the injury issues, the ONLY reason he didn't see more minutes was because of their (in her words) glut of big men. She's enamoured with his tenacity, hustle, rebounding, and the like. Plus, a great character guy. Interesting stuff.

Naturally, she wanted to know what they'd be getting in Jarrett Jack. I told her that he was a hard worker, good character guy (which Larry has been working to bring in), somewhat turnover-prone, but that he'd be a perfect backup to Ford. All in all, I told her that they'd probably like him, but that he'd frustrate them from time to time.

We talked about a bunch of other Pacers stuff, lots of Colts, some Bonzi, Zach, and Oden (she LOVES Oden!), yada, yada, but I gotta go for now. Basically, just wanted to trot that out regarding Diogu.

Happy 4th weekend, everyone! Be safe.

Re: Greetings From Indy

Diogu was a monster of a player at AZ State, but then he was competing against Pac-10 big men at the time who weren't all that great. He reminded me a lot of Marcus Fizer - a guy who had excellent skills at the collegiate level, but didn't seem to have the right combination to be a great NBA player. I'm hoping Diogu establishes himself, either on offense or defense, so that McMillan knows when and how to use him. I agree, that the Blazers landed a promising player with lots of skills... only question is how it'll translate into playing forward in the NBA's Western Conference.

Re: Greetings From Indy

The other big question is how cheaply will he resign for- otherwise he's a one year rental with too big a salary cap hold.
