Anyone listening to The Game right now?
Canzano's been running with this whole "guilty vs. not guilty" thing with McMillan forever, and, of course, his take is that he is, despite fan voting and a majority of the calls. What's it matter, regardless?! Damn, man, get on to a new topic. I'd be listening to Primetime right now save that they've again been bumped for the worst team in baseball.

Haha. I'm glad I'm not alone. I re-read that like four times trying to figure out wtf he was talking about

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
Sorry. The "guilty/not guilty" question should have been included. Here it is:
Quote:

"1. Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan turned down an opportunity to negotiate a long-term extension... he has two years remaining on his current deal... is he GUILTY OR NOT GUILTY of shaking the public's confidence in the Trail Blazers future?"
|
"Shaking the public's confidence?" What is that? It hadn't even occurred to me to wonder about it until he brought it up, then it took me another few seconds to come up with that mine hasn't changed and frankly....
Lordy but summer league needs to start!

Irrelevant. He has two years left on his contract.

Pretty much.
To go on with it further, though, sure maybe Pritchard wants the team to run more than McMillan does or there's some other tension like that. He'll either keep coaching the team or he won't. I mean, I like the guy well enough but what business is any of this of ours? I'm sure three years from now the Blazers will have a good coach, be it McMillan or someone else. I fail to see what the great debate is all about -- answer it however you like and move on.

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
Canzano has a point in the discussion. Everyone is basically thinking the Blazers are the greatest thing since Sliced bread right now. Everything is running smooth.
Then your coach doesn't want to negotiate a contract extension.
Maybe things aren't so rosy?
Canzano brought up a great example in saying that if someone like Roy or Aldridge dismissed extension talks then everyone in Portland would think they wouldn't want to stay in Portland.
Maybe Nate thinks he can't take this team to the next level, or maybe he doesn't think this team will make it to the next level.

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
He needs to create some kind of controversy. Thats all this is.
I would bet most fans don't honestly care if Nate "turned down" the chance to negotiate a contract extension..especially since it's unknown if thats actually what happened.

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
Or, maybe Nate knows this team is going to succeed, and he also knows that he could sign for an extension now (same pay?) or he could wait until after they make a run in the playoffs next year and get an extension plus a 50% raise. I don't think Nate is worried about getting his next job or his future. He is maximizing his flexibility.
I would also guess that Nate is pretty well set up financially, so he would rather make sure that he can have a job that he enjoys rather than just getting more money.

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
You know, I was very "meh" about the whole Nate contract extension thing until I was listening to Wheels the other night interviewing Nate about it. Nate, on one hand, only said what I would have expected, and only solidified my "meh" feeling. Then, I think it was Wheels, after the interview said something along the lines of "Some things will come out in the next few days or weeks that will further our understanding of why Nate has turned down the option to negotiate a new contract." I'm paraphrasing there, but he did intimate that there was something that would surface in the coming days or weeks that isn't public knowledge that plays a part in Nate's decision to not re-negotiate at this time. I thought it was very interesting. Take it as you will.

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
You heard it here first:
Joe Prunty will eventually replace Nate McMillan as Head Coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Re: Anyone listening to The Game right now?
This is typical canzano...beating a dead horse.
Let it go Canzano...
Why is is so hard for people to understand that Nate isn't working a secondary motive or anything along those lines, he just doesn't want to deal with any of the contract negotiations at this time. And his reasoning is valid too. Why do it now when you can just hold off for another year or two and maybe tack on an extra million? The team is going in the right direction and everybody knows it, including Nate. So back off and let the Head Coach focus and do his Job that he is currently under contract to do.
And people wonder why blazer players/coaches havent historically liked the media around here... its because of crap like this that media members like Canzano like to beat into the ground and get under everyone's skin. It's incredibly annoying and I would imagine is not helping Nate at all.
Let the man do his Job, then pay up. It's that simple.

Okay, let's say he's right and McMillan is already somehow picturing "greener pastures," hard as that is to picture. So what? If he's not happy, let him go. I'd worry if it were Roy or Aldridge or heck, even Steve Blake wanting to leave might worry me some. The the coach? If McMillan wants to leave, coaches will be lining up from all over to get in. It's a non-issue from every angle I can see.
