Petko
According to Mike Barrett, Petteri Kopenen would have finished second in the "pre-draft" workout score out of all the players brought in for workouts this year. Wow. Just Wow.
FWIW, he says Joe Alexander barely scored ahead of Pete.
Thoughts?

Re: Petko
Well I recorded all the summer league games so I could evaluate him during the time he is here. Going into pre season, I thought no way Koponen makes the team. In my mind, I didn't give him a chance. I admit I was wrong. After watching the summer league games so far, I have no doubt we should sign him now and not look back. He is very athletic, still growing, has good skills, and really, just needs some time with better coaching.

Re: Petko
It's just a matter of time before we sign Koponen, and I thought he would never have a chance of making the team. He's surprised me a bunch.
And I like that nickname.. Pet-Ko. Nice.

Re: Petko
[complete BS] What's even more amazing is that the Euroleague, even the minor leagues like he Finnish one, put all of their players through an extreme off-season set of tests via which they come up with what they (David Letterman) I'm not making this up, I'm not that creative (/David Letterman) refer to as the "Bad ***" score. Koponen scored higher in this set of tests than anyone ever in the history of the Euroleague. He scored a 176 on their scale that goes up to 200.
The NBA does a similar test. But the highest anyone ever got (mostly because they only do this as part of their pre-draft process) is 123. The ridiculous part is that the player that got that score was Jerryd Bayless. He blew away all the previous records. The closest anyone else got was in 1956 when Bill Russell got an 87.[/complete BS]

Re: Petko
While others are surprised that Koponen may make the team, I expected it. I was surprised last summer that Green, not Koponen, made the team. I think that Pritchard targets players and had his decision made before Summer Camp even began.
As for predraft measurements, he'd be in 2nd place overall? How do you combine the stats into an overall stat? The others were measured quickly in 1 day. Did Koponen get the benefit of being measured/timed several times over the last couple of weeks, and the best stat in each category being the final one used?

Re: Petko
Koponen had the highest score for all teams in Euroleague? He doesn't seem all that quick. Bill Russell had the highest American score, 87, until Bayless beat him with 123? Haven't they changed the test in 50 years? How could 87 stand that long and then get vanquished by 123?

Re: Playboy Pete
My thought are... find another nickname than Petco.
Petco is a another one of those HomeDepot sized pet stores.
http://www.petco.com/
The big problem is it has a terrible rep for animal cruelty.
There's a webpage here with 15 anti-petco websites and among other things...
...That.
It a big mess that's best handled by avoiding it at the start. It's like nicknaming a poor kid "Baby Seal Clubber"

Re: Petko
KP had enough confidence in him to picked him in the first round at a very age. I have read status reports of Koponen on BlazerEdge throughout the year. People were raving about him and he improved in Finland. I was hopeful that he could make the team this year. With his summer play, he will probably be on the team.
He is more valuable signed and playing over here than having a long contract and big buyout in Europe. If anything, KP can use him as an asset to get a veteran. That option is less enticing if he plays in Europe.

Re: Petko
MB may very well be lying. However, assuming he is telling the truth, this is impressive to me given the volume of players brought in this year for workouts, and the report that Joe Alexander was widely regarded as having the best athletic ability out of anyone in this draft class.

Re: Petko
I'm going to prop Schilly for being the first and biggest Playboy Pete believer I know. He coaxed me onto the bandwagon last year. All the commentators I've seen can't stop raving about him. (Pete that is.) Things are looking very good on the Koponen front.

Ahh, job or schooling?
Quite a drastic change, eh? Salem to Tucson. One is old, sleepy and small..the other has a bunch of coeds.
And it's Dap or Han.
