Re: Canzano: Guilty or Not Guilty
Ummm... Has anyone seen the various building sized billboards downtown? "Imagine Oden...Next Year. Buy Tickets Now!", Or the huge Oden #1 jersey on the side of the RG, or the many Blazer employee/management comments about "season tickets are almost gone, people are pumped for Oden, you should get tickets ASAP!", or the various Oden related TV commercials.
I'm as excited about GO as anyone. Dude COULD be a freaking stud. Right now though, he is just a stud in our minds. What he accomplished at OSU was good but not ground breaking. Summer league he looked like an above average center.
The Blazers have over marketed him, to some extent. Can you blame 'em though? It is exciting to ponder his arrival and potentially his being a productive, 7 footer who can rebound and block shots with his athleticism. Go Blazers!

I'm not faulting them for using him as a selling point, but my biggest complaint is that Canzano went from saying the team is underselling him one minute, to overselling him the next.
It's like he either has a short attention span/horrible memory, or he figures his audience does.
I know that radio listeners come in like 15 minute cycles, but jeesh. They could keep everything the same at the game, if they'd just cut Canzanos show to 1 hour. At 3 AM.

Re: Canzano: Guilty or Not Guilty
I must've missed the day Canzano talked about underselling Oden. Maybe he was trying to do a one man point/counter-point discussion?
I like the BFT. Would I enjoy hanging out with Canzano? Probably not. More than anyone else, Canzano touches on the small local issues that point to our love for sports and in particular the Blazers - we should all enjoy discussing local sports in an increasingly global world and laughing at Canzano and thanking him for bringing them up in the first place. Would you really rather listen to some gas bag like Chris Myers talk about golf and *shudder* baseball?

Re: Canzano: Guilty or Not Guilty
I've listened to both shows, the thing that kills me about all this is I don't believe that Oden's comments are conflicting. For those who missed the beginning of all this, it all started when Oden discussed with Chris Meyere's about his knee saying he would be ready to start the season and he couldn't wait, then later that day, when asked about his knee at the ESPY's said he would be 80% this year and maybe next and didn't sound quite as optimistic. I don't think Oden was responding to the same question however, I think Oden will be ready to play at the start of the season (in fact I don't even think that's debatable), I also think his knee (functionally) will only be at about 80 to 90 percent of where it was before the injury. There's a difference between where his knee is medically, and where it is functionally from the athlete's perspective. Pritchard has already said MRI has shown 100 percent recovery, from an orthopaedic surgeon's perspective, the osteoarthritic lesion that needed the microfracture surgury has complete recovery. This is consistent with what's known about this surgury, it's a 6 month healing process. So when Oden says that his knee will be ready to go, he's right, medically his knee is where it needs to be. However, every player that's undergone this surgury has had a two to three year recovery before they regained their full athleticism. This is true of not only Amare, but also Zach, Kenyon Martin, and Jason Kidd. So when Oden says he only feels 80 percent, he's not lieing, functionally even though his knee is 100 percent healed he probably doesn't have the full explosiveness that he had before and therefore feels less than 100%. Just because he feels 80 %, doen't mean his knee will be at risk for reinjury and will not be able to play this season. To go on and make such a big deal about this, to call out the marketing department of the blazers based on these comments is journalistically irresponsible in my opinion. If Canzano had half a brain he would have already clarified this discrepancy instead of getting on the radio and hollering about it.

Re: Canzano: Guilty or Not Guilty
"The anticipated debut" of Greg Oden makes it sound like the Blazers are hedging their bets. Maybe they really are afraid he won't be ready by the season opener, and Canzano is hip to this.

Oden told him, on the radio, he felt he was at 80%. Canzano cracks the case.

Good assessment. He is everything I hate about sports journalists today. Giving him an even bigger audience by putting him on the radio is truely sad. I honestly cannot understand how he has a job. Let alone two. I try listening but always find him to be very boring, annoying, and quite frankly uniformed about most subjects. I last about 5 minutes.

Canzano is a modern day Columbo.
I was going to call him a modern day Inspector Jacques Clouseau, but I felt that would be an insult to Peter Sellers
