Rudy a "rotation player"?
I was listening to 95.5 this morning and Gavin had on some guy from NBAtv to talk about the Olympics and Euro basketball. Supposedly this guy knows his stuff about international hoops and he thinks the US will have trouble with Spain.
When Gavin asked him about Rudy he said he didn't think Rudy would do well in Portland because we have Roy, Bayless, Webster, and Outlaw. He said that Rudy is a "rotation player" at best and that he's a streaky, athletic, exciting scorer that will struggle in Portland. Gavin asked him if he thought that Rudy could be a Manu type player in the NBA and this guy said he didn't think so. This drew some red flags for me. Virtually every other scout that has worked the European circuit has said that Rudy is something special.
He was also asked about Ricky Rubio and he said that he couldn't give much of an opinion because he hadn't seen much of him. At this point I pretty much disregarded anything this guy said. If you haven't watched much Rubio, how could you have such a strong opinion of Rudy? This guy has probably watched some videos on youtube and called it a day.
Gavin asked him if he thought Sergio would go back to Europe and he said it was very possible. He doesn't think Sergio fits Nate's system and that he would probably go back to the Euro league so he could play his style of ball.
He said that Batum didn't really show much in the summer league (duh) and he thinks Koponen showed some signs but that he needs work.
Anyone else hear this segment?

That's who was being interviewed?
As for knowing Rudy and not knowing Rubio...if you're supposed to know international hoops, and you claim to know Rudy...shouldn't (like Nate said) you know his teammate?

Re: Rudy a "rotation player"?
I think he will be a good rotation player. We aren't expecting him to start here, soo...
He will be a good 25mpg guy for us. We need his smart play (vet like) and his good 3 point shooting, and playmaking abilities.
I think his cieling is probably borderline all-star, but he won't reach that in portland, imo.
Nobody really knows how his game will translate to the NBA though, so its all speculation. But in my opinion, some Blazer fans have their expectations too high for Rudy (and Oden and the team also for that matter).

Like I said, his credibility went right out the window at that point.

Seriously. Ever since we got Bayless, the pub has been amazing. We are everywhere... which is cool, but the hype is something idk if we can back up right now.

Bingo.
I'm thinking Kamla comes from the youtube school of scouting, watching highlight reels and looking at box scores to come up with analyses.

Re: Rudy a "rotation player"?
Rick was the guy sparing with Snapper while calling the first summer game this year. It was pretty funny listening to Snapper give him the business for overhyping Nick Young and then Rick complain late in the game for having to carry the broadcast almost alone. Good stuff.
I would not trust his judgement too much with him not having an opinion on Rubio. While I think Rudy will be limited due to his defense, Rick was way off in saying no way he was a top 5 pick. Love and Westbrook are not the franchise players that Rick said warrant a top pick.
His assessment of Batum was shady as well. Since Gavin is an idiot, he appreciated someone on his level.
I like Rick's enthusiasm, but a GM job is not in his future.

Re: Rudy a "rotation player"?
I had no idea that was the bonehead that was calling the summer league games. My level of respect for him just sank even lower. That guy knows squat about hoops. Snapper must hate being paired with these idiots that he has to keep in check constantly.

Re: Rudy a "rotation player"?
You know that just because a guy doesn't say what you want to hear, it doesn't mean he doesn't know anything about basketball. I watch NBATV quite a bit, and I think the guy knows quite a bit about hoops, contrary to what you folks are saying. He may not be a play by play guy, and he may talk guys up a bit, but over all, I don't think his basketball IQ is lacking.

Re: Rudy a "rotation player"?
The fact that Kamla is the douche that was calling the summer league games with The Snapper really seals the deal, that you should take everything he says and consume with a heavy dose of salt.
I'm not necessarily of the opinion that Rudy is going to set the world on fire, but I have a helluva lot more faith in KPs scouting staff than Rick (Kevin Love is going to be a beast) Kamla.
