More Blazer Charity

So last Thursday the school district that I work at had a breakfast with all certified and classified staff in attendance. After catching up with colleagues and enjoying a nice meal, everyone moved into the auditorium for some "welcome back" speeches, etc.

Then, a secretary from one of the school asked a custodian that works within the district to approach the podium in order to honor him for his great act of charity. She began to explain how this young man is a huge Blazer fan and was bidding on a ball signed by the entire team at a function at one of the schools.

As the bidding continued, it boiled down to him and another woman. Because the custodian was so well liked, women in the crowd were practically throwing money at him so that he could win the prized possession. However, after finding out that the woman he was going up against was trying to buy the ball for her son that had recently been diagnosed with some kind of serious illness, the young man decided to let her have the basketball and even gave all of his money to her so that she could purchase it... truly a touching moment.

After explaining all of this, the secretary presented the young man with a brand new basketball that was signed by every member of the team for his great act of charity. At that point, everyone in the auditorium was giving him a standing ovation... it gave me chills just watching it. Apparently, someone in the district had written a letter to the Blazers and they responded by giving back to someone that had truly deserved it.

Before concluding, the secretary informed everyone that she was saddened by the fact that she was the one to present seeing as how Kevin Duckworth was scheduled to do it himself.

It just goes to show that we truly lost a great member of the Blazer community but it also reflects on the involvement that the team is having within the city. I love seeing how this franchise has turned around and I hope that you are all proud of this team.

Go Blazers.
