Yes, I understand we are talking about people who work for the Blazer organization. Who knows all the people involved but maybe it will be a good thing to get rid of some bad apples anyway. Yet, Damon is technically an employee of the Blazers and I would like to see him gone. Crap happens sometimes. It's the same way at where I work. They can come around and tap you on the shoulder at anytime and say bye-bye. You have 30 minutes to gather your things and get lost...all of this with an armed guard standing by for the nutcases.
I will try hard to make this not a personal thing. But 88 - YES - EIGHTY-EIGHT people lost their job today in an already depressed economy. These were good people that had nothing to do with players. And - they weren't a bunch of high priced over paid employees. You might think this crap happens all the time - maybe it does - but that doesn't make it any less painful for the people that lost their jobs and their families.

It makes me sick to read people making light of this situation. I never wish for people to lose their jobs - ANYWHERE. But especially in a place I used to work and many people I care for are hurting right now.

Today Sucks - and karma is a nasty thing. Let's hope you don't get tapped on the shoulder anytime soon.

I apologize if I said anything that could be construed as "making light" of the situation. I certainly didn't intend to, but see how some of my comments could be viewed that way...

The economy is hitting everybody hard, kind of amazing that it's even hitting the once financially invincible Paul Allen Blazers.

Best of wishes to those that lost their jobs today, hopefully we'll see an upswing soon for all of our sakes...

Cheers

Bro nice vent, but I bet you're actually just a bit heated over nothing right now. Do you think that maybe possibly Patterson wants to hire some of his people? Paul is still worth 20 bills, so the estimates of Blazer finacial losses (which BTW, seem not to factor in the revenue side of the ledger), equals a couple of quarters falling out of your pocket. They are reshaping the business that Patterson and Paul see fit IMO.

It sucks but thats business.

For the record, these decisions were made before Patterson was hired by a consulting firm. Patterson was made aware of them and discussed them and then the layoffs occurred.

Patterson is not a hatchet man and this isn't about bringing his people on board. This is all about Whitsitt over spending and Paul Allen losing money... and now the "workers" have to pay.

It simply sucks for all of them. But I think the organization is going to have a rough time adjusting. This is Bob Whitsitt's fault.

I have faith in the new organization and what they are trying to accomplish. This simply sucks.

I understand why they're doing it, but it seems like they're cutting down the tree's because they block the view of Mt Hood, when it's clearly the out of shape, gas hog of a car that pollutes too much that is blocking your view.

Yeah, but that is because it takes that long for the sheep to get to know the new shephard.

"Ridiculous. Not the decision made by Patterson. He's just the guy who has to bite the bullet and do what he has to do to keep his company afloat. What pisses me off is the HORRIBLE MISMANAGEMENT that has led the Blazers to this situation. A few dozen people are out on the streets in a terrible economy thanks to Bob Whitsit and the roster of arrogant, selfish idiots that he assembled. Shawn Kemp's appetite for drugs probably cost 2-3 people their jobs. Stoudamire's drug arrests a half dozen more. Ruben Patterson's wife beating, 2-3. Sheed, Bonzi, Zach.

Thanks a lot ***holes. Because of your stupid, childish and loutish behavior, some kid's mom just lost her job. Because you want to try and sneak weed through airport security, some kid's dad is out on the street with the other 8% of the population who can't find work.

You can say "It isn't directly related to these layoffs." but you're wrong.

It's a combo of Bob Twitsit's idiotic overpaying for drug addict crybabies and those same drug addicted crybabies acting out so much and so often that season ticket holders have no choice but to forget about renewing their tickets.
Before we nominate you for Humanitarian of the Year, a few observations:

1. I suspect this "horrible mismanagement" you are complaining about wouldn't have even caught your attention if the Blazers had won a championship this year.

2. Those "few dozen people" wouldn't be out on the "street" right now if Paul Allen hadn't hired them in the first place. Thanks to his deep pockets, they got to work for an NBA team for a few years. Good for them. Now they have to find other jobs. Big deal. Most people never get the chance they did.

3. Had Shawn Kemp helped Portland win a title, I suspect you would have been applauding Whitsitt for his bold move.

4. Paul Allen and Bob Whitsitt are not personally responsible for making sure "some kid's mom" has employment for the rest of her life. No company is. If she has talent and ambition, she will find a job somewhere else. But of course you just made up this "some kid's mom" for dramatic effect, didn't you?

5. Your whole argument is emotional and hysterical. I've lost jobs before, and I know many other people who have. It's not the end of the world. Even in a bad economy, people of talent and character will find other employment.

As a break from regularly-scheduled AC/DC, I don't know if it's been noted that Oregonlive.com's Blazers page is reporting that Pete Pranica and Nick Jones are among those who lost their jobs.

I didn't see that in the article they linked to, but thought I'd mention it...

Thast what I understood. I can understand Pete, as I think his contract was up, but Nick Jones?

I'm hoping Nick is just retiring, and they're taking advantage of that.

I doubt thats the case tho.

And you know this how? The fact is, they might have been overpaid for what they were doing. When times were flush, they may have been hired at very nice salary levels. Now perhaps it's clear that they are not earning their pay. Or maybe they were slackers. Maybe they weren't actually doing all that much work. Maybe they were hired for work that never materialized. There could be all kinds of reasons why these people were let go. But depicting them as "good" (versus the evil owner and GM) hard-working people who kept their nose to the grindstone all day long seems a little simplistic to me.
