Some NBA (Non-Kobe) News

Nene Hilario had an interesting trip to his native Brazil. He went down there as Nene Hilario, but came back without his last name. He told the Rocky Mountain News the name change is official. "Nene's my only name," he said.

According to the NY Post, Kenyon Martin will be seeking a max contract, worth $90 million over six years, when his agent and the Nets talk contract extension in August. Martin has one year left on the contract he signed as a rookie.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have offered Allen Iverson, who still has two years left on his current contract, a five-year extension. Ivy's agent told the paper he and the Sixers have had "informal discussions."

According to the Washington Times, the Wizards offered Gilbert Arenas a long-term contract starting at $6 million per season.

(hun? didn't the Nugs already offer 7 million a season and he said no. Why would he go to the Wizards for 6 million a year? IMO they are going to have to offer the full 8.5 million they have under the cap if they want Arenas)

Forward Chris Webber will likely miss the start of the season as he recovers from the June 10 surgery on his left knee, ESPN.com reported. The Kings won't set an official timetable until Webber loses his crutches in two weeks, but he probably won't be ready for full-contact work until November. He would then return to the court in late November or December. "We can't really say yet when he'll back," owner Joe Maloof said. "But even if it's mid-November or early December, we don't consider this a serious, lingering injury." Webber is still waiting to hear if he will receive a league suspension for pleading guilty to criminal contempt on Monday.

"TORONTO -- Police have upgraded an assault charge against former Milwaukee Bucks teammates Gary Payton, Sam Cassell and Jason Caffey stemming from a fight, a prosecutor and the men's lawyer said Friday."

Restricted free agent forward James Posey met with the Bulls on Friday, and the team is confident that they can outbid Houston if necessary, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Bulls are awaiting a decision by Scottie Pippen, their top free agent choice. If Pippen chooses to play elsewhere, Chicago will likely offer a deal to Posey. "I know they think Posey is a perfect fit for their team, but there is a strong feeling for Scottie," agent Mark Bartelstein said. "I understand that. They've got options. James has options. It's all part of the process." Pippen has reportedly asked for a management position after retirement, and the Bulls have not guaranteed such a job. As such, he’s exploring options with other teams.

The Washington Post reported that the Wizards' offer to restricted free agent point guard Gilbert Arenas is worth more than $60 million over six years. The Post labeled the deal is Arenas' largest offer to date but did not comment on the first-year salary. The Washington Times priced the opening season at $6 million on Friday. Arenas met with the Clippers on Thursday and the Warriors on Friday, and sources confirmed that Utah has extended an offer to the point guard. It is believed that Gilbert would take less money to stay in the West.

Several NBA sources told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that free agent forward Ira Newble will sign a deal with the Cavaliers next week. Newble is set to meet with head coach Paul Silas and general manager Jim Paxson on Saturday. Newble's agent, Steve Kauffman, would only say that the two sides are making progress on a possible deal. "He has great athleticism, he's a good playmaker and a good defender," guard Ricky Davis said. "He's also someone that can play multiple positions. Getting Newble would be a great pickup." According to other media outlets, Newble will turn down an offer from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Hmm...I was wondering who they would trade too
I think Ricky or DMiles has to go....Ricky has better production than DMiles, but has a bad attitude. The Cavs could probably get more value for Davis.
I heard rumours of Davis for Szczerbiak....I don't know about this deal though...
