If it were just the $200, Damon wouldn't take the time to fight it. The real kicker here is that if Damon is convicted, the Washington police can reinstate his conviction for the Yellow Hummer arrest (like a probation violation), and I think he could do some serious time for that one. The conviction also allows the league and team to step in a make appropriate fines and suspensions. That is why Damon is fighting this.
This whole thing reminds me of a line from "Guys and Dolls" where a thug stands up and testifies to his clean record "39 arrests and no convictions." Well Damon, only 36 more to go (if we count the Washington one as a non-conviction).
