Re: Chase Budinger
Scouts are different from fans. Why do we judge players based on how much hype they have? It doesn't matter, because scouts are going to games and watching players like Budinger more than the average fan.

I stopped giving "professional" scouts the benefit of the doubt a long time ago. Objectively I feel like myself, or any decent poster in this forum, could do just as well or better than an NBA scout. I don't think we can assemble a team as well as an NBA GM, but I think most of us can judge talent. Has anyone seen Saer Sene? He's awful. AWFUL. There were a LOT of us who killed the Sonics for picking him so high. Thabo Sefolosha was completely unknown, but most of us were generally on his bandwagon, and he's turned out to be a really nice player. Rudy Gay certainly looks like one of the 4 best players from this draft, not #8, and most rational people here knew that.
(and yes I'm sparing myself and others by not mentioning Bargnani, although I suppose he's the type of guy who will develop over time and not be ready immediately. At least he can run and chew gum at the same time, unlike Sene)

Re: Chase Budinger
But you mentioned that you can't guarantee someone like Budinger is a lottery pick, which I agree with. However, it's pretty apparent that he is a lottery talent. A 6'8 wing with a 40+ inch vertical, a jumpshot and handles? I mean sounds like an NBA player to me.
Budinger will more than likely be a better pro then college player because he fits the pro game. People always mention this team game garbage, but each player is an individual business so it's never a true team game because there are stakes involved that have more to do with a game; so it's important to have the ability to work on your own.
Budinger will be a pretty good NBA player and if he isn't, its because it's all mental.

Re: Chase Budinger
I haven't been able to catch an Arizona game this year, but from what I've heard you are right. I'll have to wait before I say anything concrete about him.

Re: Chase Budinger
Give me a break with the Aaron Gray is a lottery pick garbage. I have seen Gray play many times, and unless he improved leaps and bounds over last year there is no way that he is a lottery pick. He's 7'0" and thats about the only thing that makes him a possible NBA player.
As for Budinger, he might be the most athletic player in the NCAA right now aside from Durant.

Re: Chase Budinger
As a point of referance here Adam Morrrison went 3rd and Mike Miller 5th in weak drafts and Wally went 6th in a pretty good draft, see where i'm going here. My prediction for Budinger would be top 6 for 07 and top 4 for 08.

Of course in weak drafts you have guys like Stromile Swift, Jon Bender, Darius Miles and Marcus Fiser go high too so i guess it balances out.

Agree 100% about Gray and Budinger. I've never been overly impressed with Gray's game. He's a big stiff IMO.

Once again O'Bryant was a lottery pick. He didnt do squat until the NCAA tournament, and even there he was still pretty weak IMO. The NBA loves size, if Gray pulls of some few decent games in the NCAA tournament he will play himself into a good spot.
