Hasheem Thabeet
In his Daily Word, Andy Katz's said this:
"As talented as Thabeet is defensively, it's still hard to see him going No. 1 over Greg Oden of Ohio State in June. Yet, one NBA scout actually threw that out for a discussion point Sunday night. He was looking at Thabeet's potential as a game-changer long-term over Oden's. It's hard to even imagine that happening, though, with Thabeet's limited offensive game at this point."
Obviously, there is no chance of him going ahead of Oden. My question is, can this guy be that much of a game changer that he warrants top pick consideration in a draft that is already considered to be one of the most talented ever?

Re: Hasheem Thabeet
He seems very raw offensively, but defensively he's put up some nasty numbers 9blks against Fairfield, 7 against Qinnipac, and he's averging 5.8 a game. I wouldn't take him number 1 though, it's to much of a risk, he could turn out to be the next Mutumbo, or he could turn out to be the next Olowankandi.

Re: Hasheem Thabeet
I don't see him going before Oden this summer, unless he displays some domination on offense.
Who knows what this guy is going to do on that end in the league, but he seems to have all the tools to be a perennial DPOY. Regardless, there is definitely a lot of nice talent at the top this year.

Re: Hasheem Thabeet
I don't know if I would go that far. Sure, you have guys like Andrew Bynum, Oden, and possibly Thabeet. But other than that, it's still pretty sparse. Oden's athletecism advantage over Thabeet is going to keep him ahead of Thabeet no matter what. Both are elite shotblockers, but Oden is more advanced offensively, and is much more fluid in his movements.
With that said, I can only imagine the future center matchup's between Andrew Bynum and Greg Oden. That's going to be very special in the NBA.

Re: Hasheem Thabeet
If Diop can come out of Oak Hill and go top 10, Thabeet can come out next year and do the same. No question.

You have to remember those are teams with 6'6" post players. I'm not going to give him much credit until he does something like that against top teams.

Re: Hasheem Thabeet
He runs the floor very well and is more agile than Hibbert. He is, however, very raw offensively and needs to play stronger when the shot is in the air to avoid getting pushed out of rebounding position. He seems to improve each time he steps on the court.

Great centers? No. I think the PFs have subsituted the centers of the yesteryears.
If Thabeet is this great defensive player, should the no.2 pick (if he comes out) be a very young Ben Wallace type? Ben Wallace didn't really start his career until he was 26 or something. Imagine a young Ben Wallace or Mutombo type that will man the box for 12 years. Very scary.
I don't think he is Okafor because Okafor has some offense in his game.
