Re: OJ Mayo
Some nights it seems like he's more like Gilbert Arenas where he will start taking most of the shots, usually this happens when the offense gets stagnant and I guess he feels pressure to take over and will his team to victory. However, there are other nights where he plays under control and is more like Chauncey Billups, where he picks and chooses his spots to score and gets the rest of his team involved.
No one is ever going to be like Lebron. He was built like a tank by his jr year in high school. I wouldn't be suprised to see Mayo turn into a D-Wade type player. Mayo already seems to be pretty good defensively at least when he wants to be, as evidenced by his d against Rose, while helped by the triangle 2, was pretty damn good.

Re: OJ Mayo
I've seen a lot of USC games this year, and Mayo kind of fades from almost every game. He hasn't shown the tenacity that I heard about in high school. At the same time, I doubt his playmaking ability. I don't think that he's a PG on the next level.
If he is indeed a legit 6'5" 200, he's definitely a 2 in the NBA. However, I don't see him making a big impact. To me, he's had the look of a role player. Right now, he's more Larry Hughes than he is Gilbert Arenas.
His outside shot is streaky, he has barely displayed any driving ability, and his passing skills are average at best. His defensive ability comes and goes. He shows flashes, but that's all they are. He's been a real disappointment to me, at least.
In terms of freshmen, you look at Beasley. He's been dominant plenty of times, and he's consistently the best player on the floor. Same with Gordon. Rose hasn't shown real dominance, but he's showed that he's got the skills and potential to be a beast on the next level. With Mayo, I just don't see it.

Re: OJ Mayo
If Mayo wanted to, he could be a lock down defender in college and in the NBA. I think he is the best perimeter defender outside of Darren Collison in the Pac-10 and if he puts that effort in for an NBA franchise, he is going to be very good. His offensive game is very very good and with a better shot selection he plays 30 mins a night as a rookie.

Re: OJ Mayo
what a horrible game against ucla. 10 turnovers and he played passive as hell. He hasnt been playing like he was at abcd and AAU tournaments. There are some games that I wish he would assert himself like he did in high school

Dude simply doesn't want to get hurt and ruin his meal ticket. I can't say I don't blame him.

I hear you but damn this last game was hhorrible. I could see if he was locked down but the mistakes he made were effortless no one forced him into those mistakes.

Re: OJ Mayo
Mayo is a 6'4.5" shooting guard with short arms, average athleticism, and a quick trigger. He has some nice all-around skills that make him a fringe top 10 pick, but I don't think it'd be wise to wait for him to "assert" himself and become a superstar. He's just not that physically gifted at the higher levels.

I have to agree here, although he could be playing better than he has without risking much. I see your location is out in LA. Is this just your opnion or do you have connections into the USC program?
