Jamont Gordon
Does anyone have any thoughts on this young man. Sophomore do-it-all guard on Mississippi State. I think next year, if he stays this team is a top 12 team in America. This guy is poised to have a Dwyane Wade like explosion in his junior year. Great athlete, good perimeter shooter, good rebounder, good passer. He is a SG with great hops, yet has triple double ability.
Any thoughts.

Re: Jamont Gordon
He's an interesting prospect. Dude is a serious stat-stuffer, and he plays in the SEC. I don't know exactly how much point he can play, but he's definitely a distributor to at least a decent degree. He's a little short for a 2, but he has good bulk to compensate. His shooting %s aren't great, but that's to be expected with players that carry that much of their team's load. His rebounding numbers are great for his size, and unlike other 6'3-6'4 swings in college basketball that get 7rpg, he actually gets his assists.
Mississippi St. isn't too deep, so he should continue to showcase himself next year. It'll be interesting to see if he can improve on those numbers - I think his scoring will go up, but the other categories will fall a little. I think he's a borderline 1st rounder this year, but even if he only improves a little next year, I think he's easily a 1st rounder.
You look at a player like Ellington, that will probably be a top 20 pick in the future (not this season). Would you really rather have Wayne over a guy like Jamont or Rodney Stuckey?

Re: Jamont Gordon
I haven't seen him play, but the Wade comparison and then Rebel Sun's take which might as well have been written in 2002 for Dwyane Wade intrigues me a ton.

Re: Jamont Gordon
The Delk twins and Ben Hansbrough are pretty good backcourt men for Miss. State. Watch the NIT Semis next week, he will be on display.

Hansbrough has been one of the most important factors in the success of Delk. Hansbrough's steady PG play has allowed Jamont to play off the ball where is is a bit more natural.
My last post was made in haste as I was about to leave. Here is a bit more detail on Gordon, but Rebelsun pretty much said it all.
He's just an all around do everything type of player. He's got a NBA body already. He is a bit of a jack of all trades master of none, but I think if he gets on a team running one of those true pointguard-less backourts and just has two guards he can do well. He is a terrific rebounder and plays really good ball defense. His shooting has been overshadowed by some of the other players on his team (Delk and Barry Stewart) but he can shoot too.

Thanks to HKF for seeing this before me

Rivals.com has learned that Mississippi State standout Jamont Gordon has made himself eligible for the upcoming NBA Draft.
Gordon was named a third-team All-American last season by Rivals.com. The do-it-all sophomore averaged 16.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists and shot 35 percent from 3-point range.
"I've been working all my life to play in the NBA, and I want to make sure the NBA people know who I am," Gordon said. "I'd like to find out where I am with my game."
Gordon was named first-team All-SEC by the league's coaches and was the only underclassman to earn such distinction. Gordon was the only player in the conference to rank in the top 10 in scoring (fifth), rebounding (ninth) and assists (second). He even had a triple-double in a victory over Vanderbilt (15 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists).
One of his more memorable games this season came in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals against Kentucky. Gordon scored 26 points, including a 3-pointer to tie the game after a controversial lane violation was called on UK, and led the Bulldogs to an 84-82 overtime win over the Wildcats.
Gordon helped carry the Bulldogs to the NIT semifinals, where they lost 63-62 to eventual champion West Virginia. The Nashville, Tenn., native was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2005-06.
Gordon, who attended Oak Hill Academy before arriving in Starkville, was ranked the No. 16 player in the class of 2005 by Rivals.com. Gordon said he will not hire an agent, leaving open the possibility that he may return to Mississippi State next season.

Looks like the NBA scouts aren't too impressed.

Shouldn't be a problem for him. He'll come back, be highly productive again, and get guaranteed money next summer.

Re: Jamont Gordon
I am just trying to understand how NBA scouts would call him a late 2nd rounder but some other guys are guaranteed first round picks. This guy is a star in the making.
