Danilo Gallinari

6'9, 210 - F, Italy (Armani Milan)

Seems to be the next legit Euro SF. Has taken on a leadership role at only 19 for his Euroleague squad. Seems like a top 20 guy whenever he comes out.

Re: Danilo Gallinari

I think he is a better prospect than Belinelli, he is a better allrounder, Belinelli is the better shooter and scorer. Haven't seen him play much, but he is definitely a first rounder, could even have the potential to be a late lotto pick and battle with Batum for the best european prospect in 2008.

Danilo Gallinari

Danilo Gallinari can be the best international pick in the Draft 2008.
Born 08/08/88.
Point Guard Skills and Power Forward Strenght in a 2.08 body (6'10).
European journalists have compared Danilo to Toni Kukoc and Dejan Bodiroga.

You can see what he can do here:

Re: Danilo Gallinari

He'd need to gain some weight to be an NBA PF, but I can see the Kukoc comparisons - at least as far as his dribbling is concerned. I'm not sure he has nearly the court vision that Toni had, but then, who does?

For some reason, I kept thinking of Manu Ginobili while watching Gallinari drive to the basket...

Re: Danilo Gallinari

He's ambidextrous? Long arms, decent athleticism. I'm not as excited about him as I was when I started looking at Bargnani, but he looks pretty good. I'm not sure if I'd take him over someone like CDR though. I'd really like to see him workout against Joe Alexander.

Re: Danilo Gallinari

Most of those lay-ups were very Kobe/Lebron esque. It seems he has his way over there, but I dunno about over here.

Re: Danilo Gallinari

His numbers are impressive for a 19 y/o in the Euroleague; guys that young rarely are go-to guys there. There wasn't a whole lot of talent on that Armani team, Euroleague-relative. He's definitely interesting, though. Some think he has more potential than Bargnani, which I'd have to thoroughly disagree with; probably like him more than Belinelli, though.

6'9 guys with his offensive skill and awareness are valuable in the league. I'm not sure he's the excellent 3pt shooter that we come to expect from Euro 3s, but he has some interesting tools. I don't think I'd take him before Donte or Chase due to athleticism, but he'd be solid value in the teens. I'm not buying the top 5-7 projections at all. There are too many guys with a lot more upside available; fool's gold that high.

I think he has a higher basketball IQ than Bargnani, that is one of his biggest strenghts. This is also why I would take him over Green or Budinger, neither of those two is a safe bet right now. Gallinari might not have the biggest upside, but I expect him to have very little downside since he is already polished and proven that he can play on a highly competitive level.

Like you said 5-7 is a bit of a stretch considering the quality of the other prospects, 10-14 sounds reasonable though.

Re: Danilo Gallinari

I have a strong feeling Danilo is very high on the Blazers radar. I would be suprised if we let him slip past us at #13, unless a PG like Westbrook is avaliable.
