Re: Russell Westbrook
Well he has great size and athletic ability for a PG, along with a PG mentality, and really really good defense.
He showcased everything (including some nice shooting) in the Memphis game in the final 4. He defended Rose well when he was switched onto him after Rose got Collison in foul trouble. He showed the ability to get to the rim at will, as noone could keep up to him. He showed his PG ability while being defended by Rose. UCLA did much better vs. Memphis when Westbrook was the PG over Collison. He also showed the ability to create, not only for himself, but for others. He drove and got into the lane easily (like i said) and dropped it off for others.
Also, mid-way through the season, when Collison went down with an injury, Westbrook filled in at the PG spot and led the Pac-10 in assists.
He has mad potential. He is somewhat raw at the moment, but i definitely think he will be a really good NBA player.
His stats aren't the greatest, but he wasn't asked to score for UCLA. He was the 3rd/4th scoring option, which explains his only 13ppg. He wasn't asked to create as much as Collison either, but when his team needed him, he stepped up, which is why i like him. He played great defense, and shut down Mayo twice (once Mayo was not at full strenght) and shut down Bayless (only once i think) when put on him. He is usually put on the best perimeter player of the other team.

Re: Russell Westbrook
One thing that can't be overlooked is he improved a tremendous amount from his Freshman year to his Sophomore year. With his work ethic who's to say he can't keep improving offensively?

summer league is meaningless. it's nice that westbrook is playing well but it doesn't translate to the nba. he could be the best player in the history of summer leagues and it still wouldn't matter. he had to do it when it actually matters to prove any doubters wrong.

It's not meaningless, but it's not all-important either. Obviously, when guys like Skita have been named MVP of summer leagues, you've got to know it isn't a direct translation. But depending on what a guy is doing--specifically--and against whom, it can mean something.
