Chris Douglas-Roberts

While Derrick Rose rightfully has received a lot of notice, he may not be the best player (which is different from draft prospect) for Memphis. That honor may go to 6-foot-7 swingman Chris Douglas-Roberts. This season, CD-R is averaging 17.3 points per game on .556 field-goal shooting and .465 from 3-point range. Any thoughts?

Re: Chris Douglas-Roberts
He's not gonna measure out at 6'7. He's gonna measure out as closer to 6'5. He has a herky-jerky game as a lefty and I like him a lot, but there is something to be said about him really not learning how to shoot free throws after three years and his inability to make pull-up jumpers off the dribble consistently. Calipari is just rolling the balls out there.
I think he will improve more in the pros.

Basically what I was going to type out, he is a typical Detroit player though and I think if he develops he will have a similar pro career (maybe poor man's version) as another Detroit Lefty.

The best guards that come out of Michigan have that shot in their arsenal. It's basically a required shot in Michigan if you want to get any respect.

Rose, I really don't think thats a great comparison other than the fact that they both rep Detroit, and are both lefty. But I think he could become a Jalen Rose type NBA player in terms of production.

Chris Douglas-Roberts as a pro prospect
How good of a pro is CDR going to be?
He's had an incredibly productive college career. Though he's skinny, he's got great height and length to be an NBA swingman. He is exceptionally crafty, and I think he's going to be able to score at the next level. With his length and peskiness, he has the ability to be a good defender in the league. My main question about him is the rest of his game. Only averaging 4.1 rebounds a game in college is disappointing for a guy his size. For instance, CDR's box score in the championship game was 22/1/1. Then there's also the free throw shooting. Not even commenting on the championship game, should I be worried about a guy whose free throw percentage dipped each year he's been at Memphis (to be fair, his 3 point percentage has gone up each year)?
Those weaknesses being mentioned, is CDR really a lesser prospect than Eric Gordon? If so, why?
CDR's draft stock has clearly been boosted by his excellent play in the tournament. He's moving up a lot of mock drafts, but I'm not sure if he's going to be a combine or workout wonder, except for those rangy arms that should measure out very well. Where do you think he winds up getting drafted? I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a late lottery pick.
