Anton Ponkrashov
6'7" PG from Russia. For those who follow the international prospects, what is this kid capable of? I guess he plays at the highest level of ball over seas, so he has the experience. What's the word on Ponkrashov?

Re: Anton Ponkrashov
He is solid, played an important role when Russia won the ECH last year. If he continues to get better and improves his shot he could have a future in the league as a backup.

Re: Anton Ponkrashov
Sadly (like most Americans) I haven't seen a lot. But a few months ago I looked at some youtube clips purpotedly featuring him and he really seemed a blend player, almost reminding me of Korolev in how he seemed not to do much wrong, but not a lot that stood out as particularly right, either. And that seemed odd for selected highlights.
I look forward to seeing more of him though.

Re: Anton Ponkrashov
I have yet to see him, but from what I have heard he seems like Sasha Vujanic with more PG skills and a worse J.

That is actually a good comparison, both are big point guards who don't shoot the ball well, but they can get others involved. I'm not really a fan of either because I like point guards who can put the ball in the basket.

Re: Anton Ponkrashov
Doesn't Jaric suck at everything? He spent a lot of minutes at SF in Minnesota. I wouldn't want to end up with a 6'7 PG turned replaceable SF.

Re: Anton Ponkrashov
Not suck at everything, but he is mediocre at best at most things. He is a backup forced to play starting minutes, maybe they were still trying to justify the Cassell trade.

Definitely doesn't suck. I actually really like the way the team plays when he's on the court. The biggest problem with him is that his confidence is terrible--if he's moved to a role he doesn't like, or has a bad game, it clearly affects him for long spurts. It's ridiculous. But he's actually a good player. Not a great player, by any means. But if he'd be willing to accept it and play hard in that role, he's a great guy to have around as an 8th man or so, someone who will come in and play three positions. He's a smart offensive player who moves well without the ball (something virtually nobody does well in the NBA). He sees the court pretty well. He's a crafty defender. But he's not as quick as most point guards and his shooting is spotty. So he is problematic as a starter at any position.

Re: Anton Ponkrashov
Ponkrashev is even far from Jaric and he can't shoot like Vujanic...So for a PG he doesn't dribble the ball well, for SG he doesn't shoot well and for SF he is too weak...his place is in Russian Superleague...
