Re: Brandon Jennings

Of course he'd struggle in the NBA, but that doesn't mean he won't be a good NBA player. He is basically a little kid. How many point guards have gone HS-to-NBA so far with immediate success? Approximately zero. Not Telfair, Livingston, Williams or Ellis. And those are the only four who were even close. Each showed some level of promise, and so would Jennings, no doubt, but each also proved not to be ready to be a decent NBA player at that point. A large part of it is an age and maturity thing, not just talent. He may be more talented than some of the guys over there, but combined maturity, development and talent? Nope. In a year or two, probably more so. In five, sure. But by then it's a moot point because he's in the NBA.

Thanks for the clarification Luther!

This year, I watched intently as Jennings interacted with his McDonald's All-American teammates for a week in Milwaukee, and it did not seem as though Jennings had matured into a true leader that an NBA team could count on.
Which NBA team would count on a 18 year old kid to be the leader ?

2. European coaches despise inexperienced players.
A lot of coaches in the best domestic league in Europe (Spanish league) give young players a chance.

There are some good points in the article as well, on the other hand some are just horrible and he is making it sound like Europe is one big country that has absolutely nothing in common with the US. It's like a horror story just lacking some big bad men with beards who have the intention to brutally hurt Jennings Those stereotypes drive me nuts.

That is we Americans' modus operandi: misunderstanding the rest of the world through sheer lack of interest, and--whenever possible--dropping bombs on it. (I agree with most of your comments, actually. But I do think most high level European leagues' teams seem more reluctant to put younger guys on their rosters and play them a lot, probably because they have junior leagues associated with them, and the (domestic, at least) guys can go there.)

Re: Brandon Jennings

Jennings' test scores are being held for another week, until July 11th.

Either way he isnt going to decide on what he will do on July 11th. I think if he finds the right situation on Europe it is a good idea, but he is going to want playing time and a system to show himself off; the money will be there.

Arizona with Jennings is a Final Four candidate, without him they are a 6 seed. Thats how good he is.

Re: Brandon Jennings

David Stern can't like this at all. If he really wants to institute a rule to make two years of college mandatory, there could be a flood of big time HS prospects going to Europe. Of course a lot of that will also depend on Jennings' success and ultimately where he will get picked in the draft.

Re: Brandon Jennings

Quote:
Former Arizona recruit Brandon Jennings on Wednesday signed with an Italian professional league team, completing his plan to pass up college and play professionally in Europe to prepare himself for the 2009 NBA draft.

Jennings signed with Pallacanestro Virtus Roma of the Italian pro league.

"I'm so excited,'' Jennings said by phone from Las Vegas, where he had been training the past week. "I can't believe that it happened so fast. I remember Sonny [Vaccaro, the former grassroots basketball camp director] talking about it and then I called him and it happened so fast already.''

Jennings said he will head to Rome next Wednesday for a news conference. He said he and his mother, Alice Knox, and a few other family members would spend some time in the city, return home and then come back in late August to get ready for the season.

"I just can't wait,'' Jennings said.

Jennings said he was told the contract would be in the two- to three-year range. He wasn't aware of the financial terms. Jennings' family attorney, Los Angeles-based Jeff Valle, said in a statement Wednesday that the multiyear contract would have NBA release provisions that would be fair to both parties.

"Let's just see how the first year goes,'' Jennings said as to whether or not he would stay more than one season.

Re: Brandon Jennings

Beat me to it. Looks like he landed in a favorable situation. BTW one of the guys on the team is named fvcka or something like that. Found that pretty funny. Other notables on the team are Erazem Lorbek (Michigan State), Chrsitian Drejer (Florida he left middle of the season not too long ago), Allan Ray (Villanova), Roko Ukic, and David Hawkins (Temple).
