Alex Len - C - Maryland

Alex Len is a 7'1" 255 pound sophomore center for Maryland. He is 19 years old and won't turn 20 until a few weeks before the draft. Maryland has also recently started him at PF.

Draft Express Profile

Len is from the Ukraine and made a significant jump from his freshman season to his sophomore season. His scoring, rebounding, and offensive efficiency numbers are significantly improved.

re: Alex Len - C - Maryland

Got a chance to see him for the first time today and there is no question in my mind that he's the #1 pick. He has made Plumlee look like a high school kid, and this is the good Plumlee, the Plumlee that kenpom has as his #4 guy for Player of the Year. His offensive game is good; he can definitely add more post moves, but that's true for every 19 year old. He needs to dunk more, but that's also true for every 19 year old. The only shots he's missed so far were a running jump hook that rimmed out and a 15 foot fadeaway that rimmed out, but he showed that he's at least somewhat comfortable with his midrange game and can at least shoot a jump hook with his right hand.

What impresses me most is his athleticism. He's not going to set a high jump record, but he doesn't plod at all and looks light on his feet especially for a 7'1'' kid with some muscle. His body is good, he's filled out far more than most 7-footers that come into the league. His defense is good and he showed the quickness (relatively so) to show out to the three point line when he had to.

His rebounding technique is not good. He seems to be a good offensive rebounder, but I think that's just athleticism and height. There were a couple times when he just blatantly shoved Duke players under the hoop to get position and was fortunate to not get called for a foul. His defensive rebounding stats leave a lot to be desired and this is why. Someone is going to have to teach him how to rebound, but he's athletic, strong, and wide, so it shouldn't be a big problem. It's more about technique than desire.

This is the #1 pick. He's Bogut at worst (with time, not right away).

I was very impressed with him in their win vs Duke. Dominated Plumlee.

Potential lottery pick Alex Len of Maryland had surgery to stabilize stress fracture in his ankle and will be out 4-6 months, his agent says

Len, a 7-footer, must go into June draft without benefit of pre-draft workouts. The tough part is "the timing," agent Mike Lelchitski said.

Tough blow for Alex Len. A lot of lottery teams intrigued with 7-footer; will be intriguing to see which might still draft him so high.

God, I hope he lasts until 16. Because he's still one of the top 5 players from this crappy pool and Boston could use the help.

Ainge may be scared off after Sullinger didn't last through his rookie season. If Len's still there at 16 you almost have to take him, though.

Re: Alex Len - C - Maryland

Projected 6th to NOLA by DraftExpress, would Len be a good fit with Anthony Davis?
