Ostertag Quotes
Quote:
Has it all sunk in yet?
Greg: “Not yet, I’ve got a big not in my stomach right now. I’ve been used to one thing for nine years but to see my name on another jersey that doesn’t have the Jazz on the front is neat—it’s a good feeling.”
How do you feel leaving Utah?
Greg: “I was torn, because I was hoping that I would come back a little stronger than they did, but at the same time I understand. They’re making a different move and it was to go younger—not to say that I wasn’t a part of that, just not quite the part that maybe. I told them at the end of the season that I was going to go look around on the free agent market and see what happened, things just didn’t work out.”
What drew you to the Kings?
Greg: “I think what stood out most is the team. It’s a good team and the main core is there for the most part of the team that went to the Western Conference Finals against the Lakers and it’s been there fighting for the top spot in the West for the last four or five years—I know that I’ve run into them the last four or five years. That was a big part of it and trying to go and win a championship—it’s a good place to work.”
What do you envision your role being?
Greg: “Right now it’s pretty simple—get a rebound, block a shot, and set a screen. If I do much more than that I might go into overload. I don’t believe that my role will be much different than it has in the past. Nobody has ever put the ball in my hands and said, ‘Score 20 points.’ I’m here to clog up the middle, set a screen, and if not block a shot, alter it. I believe I’m pretty good at it. I talked to coach here and he’s said that’s what the team seems have been lacking the last few years. For the most part everyone knows what I’m capable of doing and that’s what I’m going to keep on doing.”
Do you have any reservations about playing in front of fans that used to boo you?
Greg: “It’s going to be tough coming in here and not getting booed on a regular basis and have that big cowbell at the back of my head. But at the same time I have admired the fans here and their loyalty to their team. Especially in the playoffs, this is one of the loudest places you can come for a playoff game. The fans really love their team.”
Is it tough being always known as the bad guy?
Greg: “I’ve been known to lay a hard foul now and then and get a blocked shot that might change the pace of the game and I think opposing fans kind of jump on that and run with it. It’s not something that has ever really bothered me.”
Have you talked to any of your future teammates?
Greg: "I haven’t—I think they’re all pissed that I’m coming. I have some numbers for Brad Miller and I’ll try to call him. From what I’ve heard, the guys around here get along well with each other. These guys will pretty much learn that I’m not more laid back than Brad, just a laid back guy who likes to drive my truck, listen to country music and hunt and fish in my spare time.”
Is it going to be tough replacing Vlade Divac?
Greg: “I knew that question was going to come up. I’m not going to replace Vlade. He’s been around the league, he’s like 58 years old—he’s been around a long time. He’s a smart player, he’s obviously a better passer than I’ll ever be. A smart defensive player and a smart offensive player. One thing I have over him though is just size. I’m probably more of a defensive presence than he might be. Vlade is going to be missed around here though.”

If Vlade fits your teams needs, that's great, but it seems as though Ostertag is gonna fit our teams weaknesses, so it will work out just fine for us.
