Sacremento's Crumbling Kingdom

Let's see: Chris Webber thinks everyone is at fault but him. OK, that's not news. As far as we can tell, C-Webb likes Mike Bibby but doesn't care much for Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic. Peja needs Vlade, who got tired of all C-Webb's stuff so, get this, he chose to join the Lakers. Now Peja wants out, this after C-Webb seemingly blasted him again last spring after the Kings' annual playoff disappointment. C-Webb said it was someone's fault, but he wasn't saying exactly who. They suspect Bobby Jackson should have played or at least given it a try, but he didn't feel he could. They wonder if making less than a third of what Bibby made led to that.

You really rooted for the Kings a few years ago. I know I did. I secretly wanted them to get by the Utah Jazz when they were just starting this thing when Webber came in 1998 and Peja was still going by the name of Predrag. They were enthusiastic, fun and talented. You had to love the way they actually tried to score as the NBA game elsewhere evolved into Barney and Baby Bop play hoops. Adelman taught offense and they played it. They looked for and found the open man. They really did run, one of the few teams that did so after all the coaches in training camp said they would. Oh, those passes. My heart beat faster to watch the ball wing in and out of the post like it did. And C-Webb ... finally. Oh, what a talent. He could do everything, although the problem mostly had been he'd tried everything. His game sometimes was too much like his personal life -- willing to try everything once.

More..
I agree. The Kings have really good peices too trade for young players. I think it is time for them to rebuild, Webber turned out to be The King of Choke, and Peja, is good, but he isn't a franchise player. Peja isn't good, he's great but you need a Superstar as a franchise player, a player like Kobe or TMac, that can do something great other than score.
This isn't meant to bait or anything, just putting my opinion out there.
Any King fans agree?

I say they should give it one more shot. Pray that everyone stays healthy and make a run at the title!
If it doesn't happen this year, then I agree, some major changes have to be made.

im not a kings fan im a knick fan whos also a huge basketball fan in general and i think its a smart move to try to kepe this core together for at least one more year..
If it wasnt for the lakers demise i wouldnt say that but since theyre broken up i think that the west and the whole nba is wide open..the lakers were the only team that seemed to have a mental edge on the kings..anyoen else i think the kings have at least a decent shot to beat in a playoff series granted everoyne else is healthy..
if they had bobby in the t wolve series i belevie they would have beat em..
SO i think its a good move to keep the core though if a good trade came for peja i would do it since hit seems he wants no part of being on the team thsi year..

Really simple: If Webber stays healthy they are the best team in the West with the only competition coming out of San Antonio. He wasn't healthy at all in last year's playoffs, playing on one leg and a big heart.
Granted there is a good chance Webb goes down again this year (not his fault by the way), but if he stays upright and relatively healthy (meaning he has the use of both legs for starters), it will be the Spurs and the Kings playing for the West, end of story.
I am not sure you could blow up this team even if you wanted to with the big contracts, but it makes no sense to because you really cannot get equal value in the market. When you have the first or second best team in the conference you dont try and retool (unless you are the Lakers).
