SacBee: Kings can count on energetic Songaila
Kings can count on energetic Songaila
Quote:
Kings forward Darius Songaila is a given, which makes him a coach's delight.
Rick Adelman knows the second-year pro from Lithuania will give his all every game. Adelman normally uses Songaila at his natural position, power forward. But with Brad Miller out because of a fractured left fibula, Songaila has spelled starting center Brian Skinner.
Never mind that 6-foot-10 Peja Stojakovic says Songaila, listed at 6-9, really is about 6-7.
"You pretty much know what Darius is going to do every night," Adelman said. "He's going to make open shots. He's just one of those guys (opponents) have to worry about all the time he's on the floor because he's going to bust his tail.
"The only thing he does consistently you don't like is he picks up cheap fouls. He reaches too much, and he gets himself in foul trouble. But he's such a solid player, and you can use him in so many spots. He's perfect for the way we play."
Adelman hopes Songaila can make an impression on Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki should the Kings and Mavericks meet again in the playoffs starting next weekend. Counting his international experience, Songaila has seen as much of Nowitzki as anyone.

GO SONGAILA!!!

One of the few things that upsets Darius Songaila is a foul call he believes is undeserved.

Re: SacBee: Kings can count on energetic Songaila
Songaila is great of the bench, we can usally count on him to provide us with 4-5 wide open looks from top of the key.

Yeah, I'm glad too we have him.
Too bad for Boston that they didn't keep him.

The other day, Darius was on the radio and they were talking about Kings getting him from Boston. He said that Boston never even invited him to training camp even though they drafted him!? That's why he decided to go play oversea. It's a good thing Boston didn't have interesting in Darius. If they did, they might have taken him and would not have allowed the Kings to get him!

Interesting story.
Boston is probably mad at themselves right now.

Yea, I remember 2003 Eurobasket when Lithuania swept Germany by more than 20 points. Donnie Nelson (Lith NT assistant) helped us much telling all the weak point of Dirk's play. We started with a smaller guy on Dirk, but the thing was to frustrate Dirk with very close defense. That guy got quick 3 fouls but made his job perfectly as Dirk was already angry, then Songaila came in and finished the job in defense.
On the other hand Donnie Nelson worked with Songaila for 4 times already in summers, so he knows how to play vs him and he will tell that to Dirk

That is great man.
Hope he does the same thing this time around.
Also are Lithuanians talking about Songaila and what kind of coverage is he getting out there?

Thanks for that info about Darius vs Dirk, Zalgirinis.
I'm glad that Donnie Jr was the coach!
