Doug Christie to be a FA?

I heard he might get waived because of the new AXE claus how cool..what do you guys think of bringing back as a backup?

That would be sweet, Doug will make everyone play that much better and would settle for less min and a pay cut for sure.

Re: Doug Christie to be a FA?

Forget having him as a backup, we should bring him back to start. We have been saying we want an unselfish, defensive oriented sg who doesn't need shots, and filling that hole with someone as dependable as Doug would let Petrie concentrate on the teams other areas of need.

If he was a reserve, he could backup both guard positions, and some at sf, so, as much as I want Jackson to stay, that might make him expendable, if that's the way they want to go.

Re: Doug Christie to be a FA?

Quote:
Orlando Sentinel - The Orlando Magic are looking at a huge luxury tax payment and they might waive disgruntled guard Doug Christie's $8.2 million salary to save millions of dollars in payments.

"According to Scott Herring, the Magic's director of basketball administration, Orlando's payroll is estimated at around $72 million, well over the projected luxury-tax threshold of about $54 million."

For every dollar the Magic are over the thresold, they must pay a dollar-for-dollar penalty would be about $18 milllion.

However, if they waive Christie, the Magic would only have to make $8 million in payments rather than the $18 million.

Christie's expiring contract was considered a valuable asset this offseason but with no revenue from a new arena pouring in, this could very well happen.

"It's certainly an option," Herring said. "We'd look at it."
Lets make this happen!

Re: Doug Christie to be a FA?

I'm all for getting Christie back, especially as a starter. However, I think he's about 35 or 36 so he wouldn't be able to play heavy minutes like he used to. If we can have Evans and Martin backing him up, they would learn alot from him and get quality playing time.

I would like the Kings to bring him back but I don't think the Magic are going to cut him.

Re: Doug Christie to be a FA?

It'll be nice to have Doug back but the only thing I'm worry about is that Doug's a bit old and injuried. Not sure how many years he have left in him?
