Kings buzz

Quote:
Although it was the Lakers' home game, it's the Maloofs' city. Accordingly, they brought plenty of star power to their party.

Among the many, George Maloof, who runs the family's Palms Casino, sat with Mario Lopez, the actor formerly known as A.C. Slater on the television show, "Saved by the Bell." Lopez is now the host of the "ESPN Hollywood" show.

Phil Maloof, the youngest of the four brothers, spent the evening with producers from actor George Clooney's Section 8 company, with which the Maloofs are partnering for an HBO show based on an NBA expansion team. The show isn't fully cast yet and is still a ways from production with no approximate airing date.

Empty space

There was a sea of red at opposite ends of Thomas & Mack Center, where many empty seats went unsold in the upper half of the lower level. The reason? The going price was $95, apparently too steep even for the land of Lost Wages.

A 'shoe-in'

Jason Hart had no sole.

As if the hip pointer that kept the Kings' backup point guard out of the previous three preseason games wasn't enough, Hart had to swap his shoes out before his return in the Lakers game.

The sole on the new pair was coming off already.

Staying grounded

It was a player's dream and a coach's nightmare.

Because of a scheduling mishap with the Kings' charter plane company, the team had to stay one more night in Las Vegas and leave this morning.

Key date

Tuesday: At New Orleans/Oklahoma City in Oklahoma City - Let the fun begin - it's opening night.
