Why would Petrie sign Salmons to such a bloated deal? So far, Artest liked Skinner, they trade Skinner. Artest wanted Adelman to stay, they get rid of Adelman. Wanted Bonzi back, they let Bonzi go. This team is going downhill, is Petrie going to do anything more? As of now, the team coming back is worse than the team that got beat by the Spurs in the first round.
I agree that they haven’t improved. Until Bonzi signs a deal for more than they offered, though, his departure is his fault. Not much they could’ve done there, since Wells was looking for $10 million annually that they simply weren’t going to give him. It is interesting, though, how Artest’s endorsements haven’t made much of a difference in personnel moves. As for Salmons, he was certainly overpaid, but Petrie was in a tough spot with so much youth and inexperience at the shooting guard spot. Kevin Martin is on the rise, but if he went down the Kings were looking at second-year man Francisco Garcia or rookie Quincy Douby at the spot. So, essentially, Salmons got paid because he’s more proven and one of the last of his types available on this free agent market.

Thanks for taking questions Sam.
What do you think Mike Bibby will do at the end of the upcoming season in regards to the player option on his contract? It seems like he would not opt out because of money (considering what Jason Terry got in free agency this year) but is he happy in Sacramento?
I think he stays. He’s simply not going to make more money on the open market, and he’ll be happy if they are moderately successful this season. Mike was forever scarred by his years of losing in Vancouver, and never wants to go back to that sort of environment. And I think he’s comfortable in Sacto.

Hey Sam, is Kevin Martin going to start next season and have you heard anything about his thoughts on the matter?
As of now, I think Martin is the starter. He will have to continue to prove himself, though. He did just that at summer league, where it was a bit unorthodox for a third-year player to take part. But the coaching staff wanted to challenge him, to see if he could dominate offensively like he should. Now he has to keep it going through training camp, where Salmons will surely push him. As for his thoughts, Kevin is a smart guy who will always say the right thing. He is welcoming Salmons in with open arms, looking forward to teaming with him at the spot to make some good things happen. He’s not a very selfish player.

What are the chances of Shareef starting? he is a better player than kenny thomas and he deserves it.
That debate would split any room inside of Arco Arena. Shareef is a better scorer, but Kenny is a better defender and more athletic. What’s more, Shareef’s rebounding numbers really dipped from his career averages last season as he struggled to board within Rick Adelman’s system. As it stands, I think Shareef has a good at starting. Kings coach Eric Musselman was an assistant in Atlanta during some of Shareef’s best years and is very high on him. But he’s also challenging the entire roster to win their spots, so Kenny will have a chance to do that.
