Kings-Celtics have made small trade

This is off http://InsideHoops.com
-- The Boston Celtics announced today they have traded the draft
rights for Darius Songaila to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for
Sacramento's 2003 second round pick (56th overall) and Sacramento's 2005 second round pick.

Anyone know who the heck D Songalia is?

Darius Songaila is PF from Lithuania, who was selected 50th by Celtics in last year draft, but played this season in Europe. With CSKA Moscow he became Russian champion, got many minutes there and was extremely valuable in first half of season before getting injured. After his injury CSKA signed Victor Alexander, who has stolen the leader spot from Darius. So when "Di" was back he didnt put amazing numbers, but was ok.

He finished Wake Forest in 02 and was leader there after Duncan left. In his senior year he got smth about 18 and 8 and was selected to his conference or so (dont follow NCAA) best team. Also he participated in Olympic games 2000 in Sydney, where Lithuania lost just 83-85 to Dream Team and was one of leaders, though it was his debut on national squad.

Songaila could be a pretty good forward in this league, hes got a lot of offensive moves. theres not gonna be much at the 56th spot so u guys got a pretty good deal. i just hope u suck in 2004 so that second rounder is a good pick. cuz i was looking forward to songaila coming to boston.

Good trade. He is probably better than anyone we could have picked at 56

Its definitely a trade that benefit Kings more... Darius is a good player, who after spending time in europe, will only become even better and ready to contribute... Maybe in about a couple of years time when Divac's gonna retire, Darius can be his replacement..

The Kings have had their eyes on him since this time last year.

"We saw a lot of tape on him from this past season," Petrie said, "but he worked out for us last year before the draft. He played center in college, but he's a (power forward) with some (small-forward) skills. He plays hard."

Songaila is a bruiser who plays aggressively, especially on the defensive end. He has a solid 15-foot jumper and is a good free-throw shooter.

Petrie said the Kings plan to sign Songaila. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, said the forward will come to town tonight intending to finalize a contract.

Bartelstein also said his client could be a big-time find for the Kings.

"He could be this year's version of San Antonio's Manu Ginobili," Bartelstein said of the Spurs' sparkplug, who was a rookie in NBA stature this season but had played professionally overseas for years. "He's not a young kid coming into the league as a rookie. He's 25 years old, has played professionally overseas and is experienced. He's a tough, tough kid who can shoot, has great hands and is a bigger, more skilled version of Dallas' Eduardo Najera."
