Kings at a glance

Herein lies why the short homestand was so crucial. After winning two of three, nearly pulling off a 3-0 mark with what would have been an upset over Cleveland, the Kings are back to playing the league's best again. Yes, the Cavs are the defending Eastern Conference champions, but they're undermanned and nowhere near as cohesive as Utah. Survive this two-game trip (at Minnesota on Wednesday), and it's back home for eight of the next 10 games.

Jazz at a glance

Utah coach Jerry Sloan has been complaining about his team's defense, as his Jazz is allowing 103.9 points per game. But Utah is rolling nonetheless, with point guard Deron Williams running the show, forward Carlos Boozer bruising down low as always, and small forward Andrei Kirilenko returning to his stat-sheet-stuffing ways after a rough 2006-07 season and offseason trade demand that went unanswered. Utah will look to take advantage of its home-court edge, as it has six of the following eight games on the road.

Kings (2-5) vs. Timberwolves (0-5)

Kings at a glance

The short version of the Kings' story this season is this: They have won the games they should have won, and lost the ones they were expected to lose. Which is precisely why tonight's faceoff is fascinating. If Minnesota qualified as a "should win" at Arco Arena on Saturday, then one would assume the same applies tonight. Winless teams are bound to win at some point, but the T-wolves are in the position to game-plan against a team they just played and three non-game days in which to do so.

Timberwolves at a glance

If the T-wolves lose, they will tie their franchise record for losses to open a season. Fittingly, that 0-6 start came during the 1994-95 season that ended with the T-wolves 21-61 and led to their drafting of Kevin Garnett that June. With Garnett traded to Boston during the summer, Minnesota is headed down that road once again. O.J. Mayo, anyone?

Probable starters

52 Brad Miller C

7 Greg Buckner SG

Ailing bigs

Quote:
Kings center Brad Miller missed practice Tuesday with a right quadriceps contusion that kept him out of Monday's game at Utah, and Theus said he is questionable to play in tonight's game.

Forward Kenny Thomas sat out with a shin bruise that worsened when it was hit during the Jazz game.

"(The shin bruise) looked like if you touched it, it would pop," Theus said. "I felt bad for him, actually."
