Magic surges in fourth quarter to beat Kings

Dwight Howard had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic got a huge fourth-quarter effort from its reserves in a 112-93 win over the Kings on Sunday.

Brian Cook and Keyon Dooling combined for 20 points in a 22-8 run to start the final period, which Orlando entered ahead 74-68. No Magic starter scored in the fourth quarter until Howard hit two free throws with 4:28 remaining.

By then the game was already in hand, but Orlando struggled early. The Magic trailed by as many as eight in the first half, when Kevin Martin scored 14 of his 21 points.

Ron Artest led the Kings with 23 points -- seven in the fourth quarter -- and Brad Miller scored 17. Martin also had 10 rebounds.

Cook, Dooling and Maurice Evans each scored 14 for Orlando. Rashard Lewis had 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and Hedo Turkoglu had 13 points.

Kings get blitzed by lowly Heat

Miami held Sacramento to 10 percent shooting (2 for 20) in the third quarter, a Heat franchise record. The Heat held a 31-11 scoring advantage in that quarter, the first time in more than one year Miami outscored an opponent by at least 20 points in a quarter, and became the final NBA team to reach the 10-victory mark.

Rookie Spencer Hawes scored 16 points, and Ron Artest and Kevin Martin had 14 points each for the Kings, whose starters were outscored 80-48 by Miami's first five.

Sacramento missed its first 14 shots of the third quarter, not getting anything to fall until Quincy Douby's jumper with 2:37 left. By then, Miami was in control.

“That probably is about the worst we have played all year. Guys were not focused on what they are trying to do. They didn’t prioritize the game, and was just a bad effort on our part. There is really not much I can say. There is no way to get technical because I didn’t think we played hard enough to be in the game.”

“If you have a chance mathematically to still be in the playoffs, then you have to come out with a sense of urgency. You have to have slobber in your mouth. You have to be coming out with an opportunity here with a team that has been down. We gave them a sense of a chance to win this game in the first half, so they go into halftime, and they are a new, different team now.”

Head to head: The first of two Mike Bibby reunions went to the Kings on Feb. 20, as Ron Artest and Kevin Martin combined for 55 points at Arco Arena. Bibby had 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting after he was traded to Atlanta on Feb. 16.

Hawks update: The move to acquire Bibby came with nothing short of great expectations, as the Hawks didn't want to miss out on the postseason, and they saw Bibby as the missing piece to ensure that wouldn't happen. But since the trade, Atlanta is 1-4 and remains in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Hawks injuries: PG Acie Law (sprained right wrist, out); PG Speedy Claxton (left knee, out).

Bibby dazzles, makes critical assist to key win in home debut

Beno Udrih and Brad Miller each scored 25 points to lead the Kings, who have lost three straight and fell to 7-22 on the road.

"We allowed a team averaging 90 points to score 123," Sacramento coach Reggie Theus said. "We gave up 40 points in the first quarter and 34 in the third. We have to rededicate ourselves to defense."

The Hawks acquired Bibby in a trade Feb. 16 that sent Shelden Williams, a former fifth overall pick, along with three other players and a second-round draft choice to Sacramento.

Bibby, who spent seven seasons with the Kings, missed the first 36 games after tearing a ligament in his left thumb, but his ball-handling skills looked sharp.

With Atlanta leading by six and 59.3 seconds remaining, Bibby was isolated against Udrih on the right side. Faking left and dribbling the ball between his legs, Bibby made a no-look pass to Zaza Pachulia, who drew a foul from Miller.

"He's a smart player," Miller said of Bibby. "He did everything old style."

Kidd proves too much for Kings

Kidd went 9 for 18 and grabbed 11 rebounds. Even without the assist needed for his 100th career triple double, Kidd's all-around performance was dazzling, such as when he sparked runs of 18-0 and 15-0. Most important was a 10-2 spurt after Dallas led only 103-102 in the closing minutes.

Beno Udrih and Kevin Martin each scored 25 points for the Kings, who lost their fourth in a row and seventh in their last nine road games. Ron Artest contributed 22 points, and Mikki Moore had 12 rebounds and nine points.
