is it possible for the Cavs to match the offer sheet Boozer just signed, (which would then put them way over the cap), but instead of trading Z or someone else to get back under the cap, could they instead trade Boozer? Or is there a rule about not being able to trade a newly inked player within a certain time frame? If true, at least they could get someone in return for him....

Larry Coon answered this question in a thread last year, and the answer is no. Some guy was wondering whether the Hawks could match Jason Terry's offer sheet and then trade him to the Pacers, but that's not allowed. Once you match an offer sheet you can't trade the player until December 15.

In this case there are two reasons it wouldn't work, the second one is that you don't have the cap room to match the offer sheet in the first place.
