You think a point guard who has carried his team to the finals successively, who currently averages roughly 17 ppg, 12apg, 8 rpg, 2 spg in the last 8 or so games, who has a season average of around 14ppg, 8apg, 7rpg and who almost gets a triple trouble every so often (either that or a double double) does not deserve to get paid that much?? Aside from his leadership skills which he provides on and off the court? What do you think should his salary be?
Jason has not been the same player since his knee surgery in 2004. His play is much less consistent so no, I don't think he is worth all that money. I'm not saying he shouldn't be payed $10 million a year but $15-$20 million is a bit much. Carter doesn't even get as much. If Kidd's salary was lower, there would be more cap room to get a decent backup point guard.

maybe he doesnt deserve 15-20 million but he certainly isn't among the most overpaid.
Penny, Brian Grant, Tim Thomas (was for bulls, but now he seems ok for suns)

How bout underpaid? Definatley Lebron James, you cant argue that
He's still on rookie contract. That's not underpayment, that's a rule. Plus, I don't think he'll complain about his salary when his Nike endorsement is $100+ million.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Kidd is the best player on a team with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson. Few objective, knowledgable observers would claim he's less than a top five point guard.
And by midseason last year he had completely recovered from his knee surgery.
I'd agree you could find better value for a max contract player (Duncan, etc.). But Kidd does not belong in this thread.
It would be interesting to see how many of these guys who never play are, like Tim Thomas, ready, willing, and able to perform, and just waiting for the chance.
Anybody who makes more than 1 million $$ for playing a sport is overpaid.
"Yeah, we make a lot, but we spend alot too"--Patrick Ewing
That quote says it all. I would vote for less pay for entertainers and more for policemen/firefighters/real jobs in a New York Knick minute, no pun intended Mr. Ewing.

I don't think anyone's overpaid if the team profits from having them, compared to not having them.
Another way to look at it is that none are overpaid, except maybe some rookies (technically rookie contracts) since the owners made voluntary choices to sign the contracts.
Vin Baker, he's not even on a NBA roster, but the Celtics still have to pay him 5.5 million for the next two years.
At least some of the other people that are overpaid are injured and you can see their faces, Vin Baker is enjoying live in Connecticut while still getting his money in the mail.
