Need Explanation for MLE

Case : New Jersey Nets used their full MLE and signed Rodney Rogers to a 3-year contract last summer.

Q : Will Rogers' second-year (this summer's) salary count as the Nets MLE money this year? Or it counts as normal, which means the Nets could use their MLE again this coming summer?

The Nets will be able to use their full MLE this summer. The MLE exception can be used every year.

By the way, next year's MLE is 108% of this year's average salary, which would peg it at a hair below $5 million - about $4.97 million. If folks like Luc Longley who are off the books for this year don't count in the average salary calculations, then it might be a bit lower, perhaps about $50,000 less.

You also have to be over the cap to get an MLE, such as Denver won't have theirs this year.

In your example NJ is over the cap so they get to use it, otherwise nope.
