Salary Cap goes up substantially for next year

David Aldrige just reported that the new cap is expected to be around 43.8 million. This is HUGE for teams like Denver, Miami, San Antonio, Utah and Washington.

The NBA salary cap will jump from $40.5 million to $43.8 million for the 2003-2004 season, ESPN's David Aldridge reports, a financial bonanza for signed veteran players and free agents.

For example, Jermaine O'Neal, who re-signed with the Indiana Pacers for $122 million, now goes to $126 million. And Nets star Jason Kidd's salary jumps $4 million to $103 million. The mid-level exception for veteran players such as Gary Payton rises to $4.91 million.

Hmmm...seems as though the bean counters were a bit conservative last summer when estimating BRI for 2003-04. If the Team Escrow Limit is $52.9 million (as it is being reported), then BRI for this last season was about $2.64 billion. The salary cap of $40.271 million expected BRI to be about $2.60 billion.

This new cap figure expects a BRI of about $2.81 billion next year. Where's the extra money coming from?

NCbullsfan: I know you might be still working on this but I was wondering if you have any clue which teams are over the luxury tax threshold and how much each one is losing because of this?
