There has been talk that if Arenas signs the Clippers offersheet, the Clippers could then match Maggette and sign Odom and go over the slary cap, but not payt he luxury tax? Is this true?

There has been some debate about this and I do not knwo the answer.

Yes. The cap is around $43 million, while the luxury tax is imposed once the salary reaches about $57 million.

Right now, the offer between the Clippers and Arenas is just verbal. There is no offer sheet. With Odom, Maggette, and Miller still counting against the salary cap for the Clippers, they are over the salary cap.

Until and unless they are able to re-sign Odom to a cheap deal and they let Miller go to Denver, they do not have enough salary cap room to sign both Maggette and Arenas.
