I have two questions:

1--Can players sign contract extensions during the season? If not, how long after the season does a team have to exclusively deal with their expiring players?

2--Can free agents sign multi-year deals during the season?

For the second question, when Wang Zhizhi signed with the Heat, it was reported that he signed a multiyear deal -- so I assume the answer would be yes. However, I am far, far from an expert on this sort of thing; this is more of an assumption on my part.

Yes, as far as I know MJG is right on the second point. On the first point, I think the deadline for players on their rookie scale contracts, the deadline for signing extensions was October 31st (which overlapped a bit with the season). For other players I think they might be able to sign extensions during the season, but I am not sure. There are a lot of restrictions on extensions, so I suspect there is one related to timing as well.
