Question Salary cap question

Can a first round draft spot be traded for a player, or does there have to be players included on both sides of the trade to match salaries? Or since there is a set salary range for a given draft position, is that the amount of salary used in the trade?

For example, and I am not proposing this trade, just wondering how it works....

Let's say Chicago wants Baron Davis.

Can the Bulls trade the #2 overall pick in the 1st round straight-up for Baron Davis, or would Chicago have to throw in a player with an "equal" salarycap number to make the deal work?

Or,
Would Chicago have to draft a player at the #2 spot (a player NO's wants) and trade that newly drafted player straight-up for Davis?

Still looking

Does anyone know the salary-cap value of a draft pick? Is there a value? Can a pick be traded straight-up for a player... and if so, that must mean the draft pick is the same salary-cap value as the players salary, right?

Draft picks count against the cap as soon as the pick is made. They have a rookie-scale conract depending on where they are picked.

A draft pick can be traded for a player as long as the team receiving the player has enough room under the cap to take on the salary. It is much easier to trade a player that is still on it his rookie contract for a draft pick.

Hope that helps...

they have no salary value. You have to give someone with salary within 15 % unless one team is under the cap.

ok

So say my team is Golden State. We are under the salary cap by alot. I can trade the #3 overall pick straight-up for any player (as long as his salary fits under my cap). The team receiving the #3 pick is fine, UNTIL it uses the draft pick, then it obviously has to make enough room to fit the slotted rookie contract.

If my team, GS, is at or over the cap, I can ONLY trade the #3 pick IF I include one of my own players with an equal (+ or- 15%) salary to the player I am receiving.

Does that make sense? Thanks for your inputs, cause now this makes sense to me....

Exactly.....

Unless you trade the player AFTER he is picked. Then his salary counts...
