NBA Draft 2007
With the draft coming up this June, and the Sonics record looking pretty horrible so far through the season...it looks like we're in line for a TOP draft pick. Fortunately for us, this draft class is pretty strong with the addition of last year's high school players who couldn't declare. Wouldn't it be awesome if we got the #1 or #2 pick and could pick up Durant or Oden? That would solve all our problems, and we might become title contenders on the spot. We already have two great scorers, but with a third piece to the puzzle the Sonics could be an elite team.

Rick Adelman on Danny Fortson...
"Fortson, that's all he does - makes free throws and pushes."
Danny Fortson in reference to the anonymous Sonic who tattle taled to the Seattle-Times...
"I think somebody on this team might have girlish characteristics that need to be turned into a man. Because if we're going to win, we need warriors. We don't need girls. Girls are for the dance team."
Fortson also said "he wouldn't doubt it" if there were a gay player in the NBA but hopes he's not a Sonic.
"That would be a bad deal," Fortson said. "He might want to keep that one in the closet."

Maybe we'll get another project center...

Re: NBA Draft 2007
I'm definately cheering on the losses at this stage of the season.
If we miss out on a top 2 pick what are the PG options like?

Re: NBA Draft 2007
Spencer Hawes. Let's set a record for most centers drafted consecutively.
On a real note, I'd consider either Yi Jianlian or Juilan Wright. Yi would probably drop, so we'd trade down. This seems to a very big-man heavy draft.

I'm all for that pick. I'm not down with another unknown project from a foreign country.

Re: NBA Draft 2007
I'm still pulling for a decent allround PG and then dealing Ridnour. The 2headed monster of Watson/Ridnour has been abysmal this season.

Re: NBA Draft 2007
If we end up #1, or #2, it has to be Oden IMO
I also wouldn't mind Al Thornton, and letting Lewis walk.

Re: NBA Draft 2007
Yi Jianlian can be the savior for Seattle. I posted this in the draft forum:
Quote:
so which team could best use someone like Yi right now? Mocks have him going at #8 or 9, which would land him w/ either Seattle or Portland. Portland already have their collection of overgrown kids so I don't think Yi will get much playing time there. Seattle is intriguing because they're a soft running team and Yi should fit in well with them, and being able to contribute too because of Seattle's lack of front court talent right now.
From a marketing standpoint this is exactly what the financially-troubled Sonics need too. I can just see the flock of Chinese people in Vancouver driving down to Seattle to watch Yi play...
|
Yi's been playing very consistently in the CBA this season, and I doubt his stock will drop since he's already been in the radar for so long and won't get "exposed" like freshmans and high school players during workout. If anything, his stock may rise because teams are banking on his potential and his marketability.

Re: NBA Draft 2007
I will **** all over my room if we draft Yi. With our franchise in this financial situation, I'd take Yi over Oden or Durant. That's right. He might not have the potential or be as good, but he's got more marketability than Oden and Durant ever will just because of his Chinesiosity. I see Oden as having as much marketability as Dwight Howard, and I don't know about Durant. But one thing for sure, if Yi doesn't flop, he's a ****ing goldmine.

Re: NBA Draft 2007
If Shard walks, Durant would be an great replacement and maybe an upgrade in the long term
