I agree that the Sonics moving after 40 years would be an embarrassment to the NBA, but the Minneapolis Lakers did have a spectacular history. They won what, 5 titles in 11 years and had arguably the best player in the NBA at the time. While it wasn't 40 years, the Minneapolis Lakers did more in 11 years than the Sonics (or Blazers) did in 40. Of course, it's a different scenario.
I think you would've been better off talking about teams like the Grizzlies moving, or the Hornets moving instead of the Lakers.

I just assumed the Lakers had a title or two and had one superstar, but yeah, Memphis and the Hornets will be the better teams to be moved, due to their lack of history. I'm not saying that I want them to be moved though.

Re: Were gone. Welcome in the OK City Sonics.
I am still choosing to believe that somehow the Supes end up staying in the Seattle area, at least until the end of their current Key Arena lease. For the long term solution, either Clay gets his new arena or he ends up selling the team to a group of locals.
Anyway, you can safely assume that Clay Bennett is no longer on my Christmas card list.

Re: Were gone. Welcome in the OK City Sonics.
If Clay ends up applying to move the team before the regular season starts, I doubt that we will see him at any home games, at least not in plain view. I do not believe that he has the cajones to face the local fan base.

Hehe... Clay, Clay, Clay. I feel good about this situation now, and I feel confident they'll stay. I want to see Bennett try it anyway. Make him the public enemy.

"I absolutely know the team can survive and be profitable in Oklahoma City," Bennett said. "The Ford Center [there] is quite adequate -- but another building would be needed in the future.
"I can tell you there is high interest in bringing the NBA to Oklahoma City."

"He also said he intends to remain "engaged" with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, which funded a just-completed feasibility study that said an arena could prosper on tribe-owned land in Auburn, 25 miles south of Seattle. But Bennett again said Friday that he was concerned about the site's relative remoteness and the traffic issues surrounding it."

he is officially hellbent on moving the team. hopefully someone can stop him.
